Hong Kong's National Security Law ā Simon Cheng, previously kidnapped by Chinese government for forced confession: What they've done to me is now replicated on Hongkongers under the National Security Law
(22 May) "It is always darkest before dawn." Beijing's excuse for national security to cover up the reality of white terror via the forceful implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law has thoroughly undermined Hong Kong Basic Law and the promised "one country, two systems", to the shock of many. To help readers understand Hongkonger's apprehension and the law's impact on Hong Kong, CMMedia Taiwan made connections to interview experts and scholars in Hong Kong, London and Mainland China.
//It is widely believed that this marks the end to 22 years of Hong Kong's "high degree of autonomy" since the Handover in 1997. "One country, two systems" has now become "one country, one system".
//there is widespread worry that Hong Kong's version would be used to suppress the Anti-ELAB movement and "silence" people.
//"If it gets passed, I'm afraid I won't be able to talk to you later on..."
//"My fears of being kidnapped again from not long ago is now a reality written into modern law," said Simon Cheng... He believes that CCP's original transgressions against him are now being replicated on Hongkongers via the Hong Kong National Security Law.
//all who advocate for democracy will be at risk. The destruction of Hong Kong's 'two systems' will become an undisputed reality."
//Once Xi Jinping came to power, however, China had already imagined itself as a "rising superpower" and could "stop pretending!"
//This time, the CCP is clearly giving its all to repossess Hong Kong but this will inevitably provoke Hongkongers' resistance."

Authoritarian government in #Belarus uses bomb threat to divert a plane and arrest an opposition blogger in exile
On 23 May 2021, a #Ryanair flight from Athens, Greece to Vilnius, Lithuani was forced to perform an emergency landing in Minsk, located in Belarus, after the #Belarus ATC claomed that there was a 'bomb threat' on board.
By doing so, the Belarus police arrested a pro-democracy activist-in-exile #RomanProtasevich, who was a former editor of the Telegram channels #Nexta and Nexta Live.
Protasevich was wanted in Belarus for being critical of and having organized a protest in 2020 against the authoritarian president Alexander Lukashenko.
The Lukashenkoās authoritarian government has launched a broad crackdown on opposition leaders and independent media. All editors at Nexta who mostly live in exile have said they have been threatened with extraordinary rendition in the past.
The Polish prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, said the plane had been āhijackedā and accused Lukashenko of a āreprehensible act of #StateTerrorismā.
In a joint statement, the US, Ireland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland and the Czech Republic condemn Lukashenko's action as āan act of piracyā: āThis act of state terror and kidnapping is a threat to all those who travel in Europe and beyond. It cannot be allowed to stand."
Protasevich was reportedly trembling on the plane, telling a fellow passenger that "Iām facing the death penalty here", as the plane was diverted to Belarus. His current whereabouts are unknown after being taken away by the Belarusian police.
It was confirmed that Lukashenko ordered his military to use a Mig-29 fighter to escort the plane.
