There were a large number of police officers marching through Shatin New Town Plaza.
This has been a very common sight over the past few 'Sing with You' activities that were organized in malls. Their presence do not just drive out people and shoppers, but also forces every single shop to call it a day.
In addition, 7-9 PM is the peak hour for shopping malls, as most people would have knocked off from work, or are looking for places to dine at.

Police officers surrounded a man suspected to have had a collision with a police officer. Some of the police officers did not listen to the surrounding civilians and threatened them by holding up their pepper sprays.

At around 2245 in Sha Tin's New Town Plaza on June 12, 2020, the riot police rushed to the 3rd and 4th floors of the mall to stop and search civilians.
Meanwhile, they flashed torchlight a group of people on the 6th floor. Several plainclothed police immediately shouted, "Why are you flashing? Blue on blue!" The riot police officer on the 4th floor then asked "Which team are you on?"
