2 Pastors Left Hong Kong after the Gospel Declaration was Reprimanded by China-funded Media for “Intention to Instigate Secession

Hong Kong Pastors Network, composing of a group of pastors and preachers, published the "Hong Kong 2020 Gospel Declaration" and stated,

“In the face of a totalitarian regime that distorts facts, controls the media, and buries the Truth, the Church courageously rejects all falsehood, and points out what the regime has done wrong”.

The declaration was criticized by Chinese Communist Party- funded newspapers Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po as "infiltrating and brainwashing groups of followers to intentionally incite secession after the implementation of Hong Kong National Security Law".

Reverend Chan Yan-Ming, one of the initiators, confirmed that two members of the network, Reverend Wong Siu-yung and Reverend William Yeung, had left Hong Kong after being reprimanded by the two Beijing-controlled newspapers for violating the national security law.

Christian Times published on Aug 14 that after the forceful imposition of the Hong Kong National Security Law on June 30, the Hong Kong Pastors Network had been disbanded. Reverend Wong and Yeung, the two primary initiators of Hong Kong 2020 Gospel Declaration, have fled Hong Kong due to family concerns and pressure after being criticised.

HK Secretary for Security Warns Against Promoting
Secession on #DoubleTenDay: "We'll Surely Find Evidence to Prove What You Think"

In Hong Kong, the Secretary for Security, Chris Tang Ping-Keung, warned Hong Kong citizens not to "attempt splitting Taiwan from China", or to "encourage or to incite people to take related actions on October 10", also known as the "Double Ten Day", Taiwan's national day.

In a Sing Tao Daily's exclusive interview, Tang, the former police commissioner and currently Security Chief, claimed that such behaviours are "serious crimes", and the authorities will definitely enforce the law.

Tang also asked, "If there is no intention to split a country, why would you celebrate this date [The Double Ten Day]?"

In the past Double Ten Days, supporters of Taiwan had hosted events in Hong Kong, displaying the "Blue Sky, White Sun, and a Wholly Red Earth" flag of the Republic of China. However, the Flag-raising Ceremony at Hung Lau, Tuen Mun was cancelled in 2020 due to the implementation of the national security law.

Lee Kwok-Keung, Director of Labor Research at the Hong Kong and Kowloon Trades Union Council, indicates that the council have been celebrating the Double Ten Day since 1948. It commemorates the #XinhaiRevolution and the establishment of the Republic of China. He believes that the celebrations cannot be simply equated to secession.

Tang emphasizes that the main point is whether there is an intention to split the country. "If you truly want to separate Taiwan from China, we will surely find evidence to prove what you think and what you do."

The Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) government does commemorate the Xinhai Revolution; in fact, on 9 Oct 2011, a commemoration of its 100th anniversary was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Then-General Secretary Hu Jintao, then-Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping, former General Secretary Jiang Zemin, former Premier Li Peng, and former chief executive who is also a vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Tung Chee-Hwa participated in that meeting. A huge photo of #SunYatSen, honored as the founder of modern China both on the mainland and in Taiwan, was on display at the center of the hall.

Chanting ‘Hongkongers, add oil’ could be seditious

The prosecution’s expert witness, History Prof. Lau Chi-pang at #LingnanUniversity in Hong Kong testified in the trial of former radio presenter Tam Tak-chi (a.k.a Fast Beat) on October 18.

Lau told the District Court that “Liberate Hong Kong; revolution of our times” or “Hongkongers, add oil” were capable of inciting others to break the national security law.

He said "Liberate Hong Kong; revolution of our times” was originated with the activist and later picked up by protesters who vandalised Beijing’s liaison office in Sai Wan on July 21, 2019. He maintained that it is secessionist in nature. Other expressions such as “Hongkongers, add oil” and “no rioters but tyranny” could also have breached the law.

Lau was also an expert witness in Hong Kong’s first national security law trial in which defendant Tong Ying-kit was jailed for nine years.

Besides, Standard Chartered Hong Kong #Marathon 2021 would be the first high profile athletic event after the National Security Law implementation in Hong Kong.

Reporters queried in the briefing sessions whether a runner's outfit bearing controversial slogans could be disqualified and whether the organiser would report the case to local police. The organiser declined to address the question initially.

When being pressed afterwards, the organiser suggested runners to amend the slogan to "Runners Add Oil" instead of "Hong Kong Add Oil", as "Hong Kong has always been progressing, never regressing".

They declined to comment on how the display of the protest flag, Liberate Hong Kong Revolution of our Times, would be handled, "it's not a Marathon's matter".

Hong Kong Court Sends "#CaptainAmerica" to Almost 6 Years in Jail Over #Secession Under #NationalSecurityLaw

On November 11, 2021, the District Court in Hong Kong sentenced pro-democracy activist #MaChunMan, who was nicknamed ''Captain America 2.0," to five years and nine months in prison. The court found him guilty of inciting secession under the national security law.

The court concluded that the 31-year-old Ma, had chanted slogans and displayed signage advocating for Hong Kong independence during the protests in 2020.

Judge Stanley Chan described it as a "serious" case, and used six years’ imprisonment as the starting point for Ma’s punishment. The court revealed that in a letter Ma wrote for his case, he said he did not regret for what he had said.
