War zone bans arms in hospitals, but Hong Kong police behaved differently

A 14 year-old boy was shot by an off-duty police officer with a live round on October 4, leaving him in critical condition.

After he had been sent to Tuen Mun Hospital, the riot police in full gear and holding long guns entered the hospital lobby and stood on guard at the hospital (see video).

Dr Au Yiu-Kai, an experienced war-zone surgeon criticized the behaviour of the police. “They are so scared that they have to hold onto their guns. All they know is to intimidate others. They have no considerations for other people. Or they are just utterly foolish and naive.” He said that both MSF and Red Cross have international guidelines banning arms in war-zone hospitals, to protect the safety of medical professionals and patients. He said that the acts of the Hong Kong could motivate other parties to bring weapons into hospitals and stir up conflicts.

October 4: The Day When the Government Invokes Emergency Powers to Bypass Legislature and Implement the Anti-Mask Law

After the news was announced, citizens started a new wave of protests to show the authorities their discontent. Many people joined in after work and school. Students in uniform were sighted in the rallies across districts (see photo). In a march from Central to Causeway Bay, a citizen played the song “Glory to Hong Kong” with his recorder, as a way to cheer up Hongkongers despite adversities (see photo).

Meanwhile, some people rushed to grocery stores to stock up their food storage, as if the city was going into a state of emergency. Many supermarkets became empty (see photo).

Although the government denied a proclamation of martial law and an imposition of a curfew, police ordered all bus companies to terminate their services while MTR suspended its services of all lines.

High Court refused to grant injunction order to the Face-Covering Ordinance.

Netizens pointed out 9 questionable points in the ‘rioters’ video
Someone uploaded a video with title, ‘Who did that? Rioters or Crusaders?’ and stated that on 4th October, ‘rioters’ damaged a train that stopped at FanLing station. However, netizens immediately discovered 9 questionable points!

(A little background for those who are not familiar with Hong Kong subway station system. A direct train is a train that goes directly from Hung Hom to Mainland China without stopping. Meanwhile, the Fan Ling station was closed at 21:30 HKT that night but the news reported the damage was done after 23:00 HKT.)

1st: On the same night that Anti-mask law was publicised, MTR was forced to shut down all stations. Anyone other than the train station officers and cops were unable to access any stations.

2: A direct trains to mainland China would never stop at Fan Ling station

3: The front of the train was facing Hung Hom, but it was on the wrong platform

4: Only one media was there to film it

5: The video was taken from the inside of the train then moving outside of the train toward the platform

6: The train stayed stationary and wasn’t moving for quite a long time

7: Those who were ‘protestors’ moved very slowly and they seemed to not worry about getting arrested. They even waited for the train’s doors to open.

8: When the ‘protestors’ opened the emergency door, the alarm did not go off (as it normally does)

9: Some of the ‘protestors’ were seen wearing similar shoes to those that cops have been wearing

Conclusion: It is quite obvious that the Communist Party splurged their money on these acts to smear protestors
Train = Prop
People = Actors

Medical Professor and SARS Expert Joseph Sung: Giving up on Hong Kong's younger generation means losing faith in future

At the start of the pro-democracy movement in 2019, the Hong Kong government, and business sector have been ignoring the youngsters' demands. Annie Wu, daughter of Maxim's Catering's founder, said that she had lost all hope in them, causing the pro-democracy fraction to boycott the company and its chains.

In a radio show recently, Joseph Sung, former professor and ex-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (#CUHK) disagreed that one should give up and lose hope on the younger generation.

During the show, Sung said that he understood the frustrations of the younger generation, but they should not lose hope just because they are unable to own homes. He suggested that if one cannot get married and have kids, they could perhaps work overseas for a few years and contribute to the society when they are back. He also said that the younger generation is very creative and energetic, and that people should not write them off. He said that giving up on the younger generation means losing faith in the future, and urged the different generstions to listen to each other.

HK Police Accuse Pro-dem Lawmaker of "Smearing and Inciting Hatred by Describing Officers as #GreenObject

On Oct 1, Hong Kong police conducted large-scale stop and search operations. More than 80 were arrested. Pro-democracy lawmaker Kwok Ka-ki, of Civic Party, posted a photo of the police on Facebook, with the description “Green objects are stooges for the brutal regime” and “the ones who sold their souls for becoming dictator's tool”.

In the statement, the Police condemned Kwok for "smearing and insulting police officers and inciting hatred for political reasons". The police also described Kwok’s act as a "contradiction to the ethics of a virtuous person", a public servant, and his profession as a medical worker.

Editor's note: The term "Green Object" alluded to the "yellow object", which was used by the Hong Kong police in denying police brutality during a press meeting. The police described the victim as a "yellow object".

Former Chief Executive Condemns HK's Secretary for Education for ignoring Xi’s opinion

The "803 HK" is a bounty website formed by CY Leung, former HK's Chief Executive and current chairman of CCPCC. Leunv applied for a judicial review at Hong Kong's,High Court on Oct 3, 2020, requesting the Court to order Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung to disclose the personal information of the teacher who was disqualified because of accusations of "professional misconduct" recently.

On Oct 4, Leung quoted from CCP secretary-general Xi Jinping “為官避事平生恥”, which means as a public servant one should not hide away from any challenge. Leung’s post implied that the Secretary for Education should follow Xi’s saying.

Leung also called the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union (#HKPTU) as a "union of bullies", claiming that “chaos will continue as long as HKPTU exists”.

In his post, Leung described the disqualified teacher and HKPTU as an "overbearing driver" and a "bully". The Education Bureau, on the other hand, was described as a "traffic warden" who hid away from the public’s demand to disclose the teacher’s personal information to avoid trouble. Then, Leung criticised the “traffic warden” for ignoring Xi’s famous quote, and shirking the responsibility to the judge.

Leung said the Bureau should “be strong” and not be afraid of the “bully” HKPTU.

#PandoraPapers Expose Undisclosed Assets of Former Hong Kong #ChiefExecutives

Hong Kong Stand News took part in the Pandora Papers investigations by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (#ICIJ), joining forces with over 600 journalists across 117 countries and territories in uncovering secret finances of the rich and powerful of the world.

The papers uncovered undisclosed assets held by two former chief executives of Hong Kong, #LeungChunYing and TungCheeWah, both of whom are now serving on the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (#CPPCC) as vice-chairmen.

(1) Leung Chun-ying's Undisclosed #UGL-Related Sales May Constitute Misconduct, Says Ex-ICAC Officer

Leung was found to have made undisclosed sales of shares worth HKD $2.3 million in EuroAsia Properties, a subsidiary of international property services firm DTZ, which he held through a convoluted string of ownership via two offshore companies.

Notably, the undisclosed sale occurred during an anti-corruption investigation on Leung in 2015, in which he was said to have received HKD $50 million as part of an agreement with Australian firm UGL when it acquired DTZ Holdings. The details of the newly found sales agree with those of the UGL agreement, which was disclosed by Sydney Morning Herald.

The ICIJ and Stand News had inquired Leung regarding the new findings, without receiving a reply.

Since the Pandora Papers were published, however, Leung published a statement on the same day, claiming that the government's reporting rules did not require declaring changes in subsidiary companies. He also said that he had initiated procedures for resigning from his director's position at EuroAsia before becoming chief executive, and that it may not be immediately effective due to the differing legal processes in different countries.

However, barrister and former ICAC Chief Investigation Officer Stephen Char said that this shows that loopholes exist in the government's procedures of declaring assets. If there is sufficient evidence that the omission is deliberate, Char added, it may constitute an offence of Misconduct in public office.

(2) Tung Chee-Wah and Family Involved in Over 72 Offshore Companies

The Pandora Papers also show former chief executive Tung Chee-wah and his family to be involved in at least 72 offshore companies, of which 7 are owned by Tung.

One company's HSBC bank account was found to have current assets worth an estimated USD $1 million.

Tung's youngest son also has a Bank of China account via another offshore company. Tung's brother Chee-chen allegedly also has bank accounts through 4 offshore companies, and owns mansions in opulent neighborhoods via yet another two offshore companies.

Of the 7 companies owned by Tung, the papers show that he has either full or partial ownership in his name or in a company name. These 7 are all established in March 2005, after Tung's resignation from his chief executive position.

Now 84 years of age, Tung was conspicuously absent at the flag-raising ceremony on China's national day last Friday, Oct 1. His spokesperson said that Tung was not feeling well that day, and was resting at home.

'Some are just
#psychopaths': Chinese detective in exile reveals extent of torture against #Uyghurs

//The ex-detective turned #whistleblower asked to be identified only as Jiang, to protect his family members who remain in China.

In a three-hour interview with CNN, conducted in Europe where he is now in exile, Jiang revealed rare details on what he described as a systematic campaign of torture against ethnic Uyghurs in the region's detention camp system, claims China has denied for years.

"Kick them, beat them (until they're) bruised and swollen," Jiang said, recalling how he and his colleagues used to interrogate detainees in police detention centers. "Until they kneel on the floor crying."

The methods included shackling people to a metal or wooden "tiger chair" -- chairs designed to immobilize suspects -- hanging people from the ceiling, sexual violence, electrocutions, and waterboarding. Inmates were often forced to stay awake for days, and denied food and water, he said.

"Everyone uses different methods. Some even use a wrecking bar, or iron chains with locks," Jiang said. "Police would step on the suspect's face and tell him to confess."

The suspects were accused of terror offenses, said Jiang, but he believes that "none" of the hundreds of prisoners he was involved in arresting had committed a crime. "They are ordinary people," he said.//

//...During the routine overnight operations, Jiang said they would be given lists of names of people to round up, as part of orders to meet official quotas on the numbers of Uyghurs to detain.

"It's all planned, and it has a system," Jiang said. "Everyone needs to hit a target."

If anyone resisted arrest, the police officers would "hold the gun against his head and say do not move. If you move, you will be killed."

He said teams of police officers would also search people's houses and download the data from their computers and phones.

Another tactic was to use the area's neighborhood committee to call the local population together for a meeting with the village chief, before detaining them en masse.

Describing the time as a "combat period," Jiang said officials treated Xinjiang like a war zone, and police officers were told that Uyghurs were enemies of the state.

He said it was common knowledge among police officers that 900,000 Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities were detained in the region in a single year.

Jiang said if he had resisted the process, he would have been arrested, too.

Inside the police detention centers, the main goal was to extract a confession from detainees, with sexual torture being one of the tactics, Jiang said.

"If you want people to confess, you use the electric baton with two sharp tips on top," Jiang said. "We would tie two electrical wires on the tips and set the wires on their genitals while the person is tied up."

He admitted he often had to play "bad cop" during interrogations but said he avoided the worst of the violence, unlike some of his colleagues.

"Some people see this as a job, some are just psychopaths," he said.

One "very common measure" of torture and dehumanization was for guards to order prisoners to rape and abuse the new male inmates, Jiang said.//
