Health Code is worse than National Security Law

Today, the government is still talking about privacy protection, however no one knows where one’s personal data will eventually be passed to.

A report on New York Times revealed that in China users' personal data were dispatched to Police Department. When anyone presenting his/her Health Code, the person’s location, personal details, and past activities could all be sent to the police server in one go. Regarding this, the Health Code application has never informed its users.

In other words, whether you have visited some pro-democracy shops, your daily routine, shops and places most frequented, people you have dined with and spoke to, all personal social activities could be blatantly examined and analyzed by data analytics, and these data could also be shared with the police one day.

Other than that, most people might have overlooked that the execution of Health Code could only be realised by hardened administrative grip and tougher policing efforts.

For instance, when carrying a red health code, you will be rejected from entering shopping centers, taken back home or even being arrested by “enforcement personnels”.

The whole world in fact, is concerned about growing public power amidst pandemic prevention, which in its "exceptional state", would be normalized as routine social order even in post-pandemic era.

A mega survelliance system that the totalitarian government failed to impose 50 years ago would now become true.

#RTHK Removes Programme From Their Page After Interviewee Was Suspected to Be Wanted on Violation of National Security Law

Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) has had a special live show called “the siege of 2020 Legislative Council (#LegCo) postponement”, which has been available in the RTHK website. However, the programme has been removed after a while.

In the response of an inquiry on why the programme was removed from their page, the spokesman of RTHK quoted a source that one of the interviewees, #NathanLaw, is wanted on the violation of National Security Law after broadcasting.

RHTK Programme Staff Union challenged why the management had removed programme from the page before police confirmed and disclosed the wanted notice and criticised their decision of depriving related people of their political rights and contradicting the common law. The Union also worried that less people can have interview in person hereafter and that the #PressFreedom is being eroded.

Made-in-China Fake COVID19 Vaccine Sold Via Chinese WeChat

Currently, no COVID-19 vaccine has been proven and manufactured for use in the world. Howevet, a fake vaccine can already be found on the internet in China. This fake vaccine claims to be produced from a "well-known" pharmaceutical company. Each dose of vaccine is marked at 498 RMB (~ 72 USD).

According to Chinese media reports, netizens have put “fake vaccines” on WeChat for sale. A WeChat message reads, “Please contact me if you need a COVID-19 vaccine. We do export as well. But, you will be on a waitlist first due to limited supply.” Also, it claims that the first batch of vaccines will be officially on sale on 2 September 2020.

Another message reads, “A China-made vaccine is already available. One dose is 498 RMB. Each treatment needs three doses in total. Healthcare workers and those who need to go abroad have priority. The vaccine will be widely available by the end of this year.”

The name of the vaccine “CoronaVac an inactivated vaccine for SARS-CoV-2 (Vero cell)“ is printed on the package and the product’s barcode could be traced to Sinovac Biotech and Wuhan Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd.

At the Canadian Chinese Relation Committee, the witnesses from Hong Kong Watch and other organizations were making strong statements regarding how Canadians are directly affected by the National Security Law, and the revelation was stunning. The new laws are deliberately expansive, vague and chilling. With the court processes in Hong Kong offer no protection from arbitrary decisions made by elite Chinese political figures, anyone travels to Hong Kong can be in danger.

Jody Chan, from Alliance Canada Hong Kong, said that, “Anyone in the world who is critical of China could be violating the National Security Law”.

Why Health Code is worse than National Security Law

Part 4/4.

A researcher of the Human Rights Watch once said, “the outbreak of Coronavirus is becoming a milestone for China to carry out large scale surveillance.” (n.b. China has recently sanctioned the Chief Executive of Human Rights Watch.)

The long-deployed social credit system in China failed to perform rigorous surveillance, which was criticized for giving rise to “loopholes” during epidemic outbreak.

When designing Health Code, it was meant to gear up suvellience control. Its encroachment to people's privacy is appreciably worse than social credit system.

Today the government may collect your health data, personal data, and details of daily activity for Health Code. Soon afterwards, collecting people's vital data, contents of their online chats will no longer be a fantasy Arabian Nights.

Once the Health Code is put in place, you do not need a prison cell to be imprisoned as your home will become a prison, sparing also court deliberations.

"Want to go out? Denied. … A red health code! "
"Want to ride a car? Denied. … A red health code!"
"Want to go shopping? Denied. … A red health code!"

Compred to Health Code, the detriment of National Security Law is nothing at all.

Pompeo: Not Cold War 2.0 – CCP Threat Worse than Soviet Union

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, "What's happening now isn't Cold War 2.0", as the threat China poses to Western countries is in some ways "worse" than that posed by the former Soviet Union.

Addressing the Czech Senate on his first stop of the five-day visit to Central Europe on Wednesday, August 12, Pompeo spoke about "the challenge of resisting the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] threat is in some ways worse" than that during the cold war, because “the CCP is already enmeshed in our economies, in our politics, in our societies in ways the Soviet Union never was.”

In his speech, he recalled the years of Soviet suppression of the Czech Republic. While Russia continues to "undermine" Czech democracy and security using disinformation campaigns and cyberattacks, Pompeo believes that China would pose an even greater threat because of her "campaigns of coercion of control". As an example, he cited the cancellation of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra's concert tour in China due to Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib's pro-Taiwan policies, arguing that this shows that “the CCP leverages economic power to coerce countries".

Pompeo also mentioned that during the Cold War, the Czech Republic, "and others that suffered behind the Iron Curtain, know best of all how deeply communists plunge societies into ruin and repression". He urged Czech senators to "stand up for the sovereignty and freedoms" that the Czech people demanded for their country between 1968 and 1989.

Denise HO Wan Si, a Hong Kong popular pro-democracy singer, will have her 7-show concert in September at the Hong Kong Art Centre.

A total of 2,000 tickets were sold out within 2 minutes on 23 August, 2021. HO thanked all her fans in Facebook, "I will honor my soul to give a hug to each and every of you".

On the next day of HO's announcing her concert earlier, HO's closed fellow from the Hong Kong Shield Anthony WONG Yiu Ming, another popular pro-democracy singer, had been arrested for offence of "misconduct in election". Some fans of HO had commented on her social media pages asking her to "leave". HO thus shared her thought, "no one will know what's happening in the next second; in this messy age, we should be firm with ourself and our belief, don't be influenced by tons of things pass-by."

Hong Kong is undergoing another wave of mass emigration, many among are professional talents.Henry Fan Hung-Ling, Chairman of Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) admitted that the turnover rate of doctors and nurses increases year-over-year, and "the trend is worrying". He added that many of the leaving medical professionals are on emigration plan departing Hong Kong permanently.

Among those, a Consultant Doctor (very senior doctor in Hong Kong public hospital) specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Children's Hospital just resigned. Dr. Barnabe Antonio Rocha, one of the 12 Cardiothoracic Surgery Consultants in HA, will be leaving his position shortly. According to another anonymous Consultant Doctor, Doctor Rocha is experted in cardiac surgery for child and his departure marks a loss of talent in the Hospital.

Doctor Tony Ling Siu-Chi, President of the Hong Kong Public Doctors' Association, commented certain "actions" and "news" by Hong Kong government masks the city with white terror, leading to this new wave of mass emigration involving many people from various sectors, including doctors. He furthered, the government must need to think thoroughly a question - why there are so many Hong Kong people losing confidence to their city, their home.

In July 2021, the HKSAR Government claimed to disqualify democratic district councillors and would ask for a salary return from district councillors after disqualification, leading to the resignation of over half of these councillors. However, resignation does not mean leaving the area permanently. Instead, some of the resigned councillors continue their contribution to society in another way. For example, LAM Siu-Bun's office in Yau Tsim Mong becomes a miscellaneous stall; LEUNG Kwok-Ho's office in Cheung Chau becomes a wine shop; former Kwai Tsing District Councillor WONG Pit-Man returns to the community organisation Tsing Yi Islanders as a convener to organise different events.

The above three did not leave but having different perspectives. LEUNG admitted a struggle between being an “ordinary person” to take care of his family and staying for the community. However, many fellow co-fighters are in prison now, and he said, “I need to be here! With my ability. I don’t want to leave!”. LAM, was the assistant of IP Kin-yuen, strengthened his persistence to stay after the collapse of the HK Professional Teacher’s Union, “I don’t want to see a sudden collapse of civil society!”. WONG thought that she loaded down her identity as a district councillor, “returning” to her past, being a convener of an organisation concerning the community, doing what she should do.

Yet, what they all have in common, is, "Stay in the community even if they are no longer a district councillor".

China has unleashed on the tiny European country of Lithuania over Taiwan.

Beijing-backed newspaper the Global Times on Tuesday labelled the country of just 2.8 million people "crazy" and "evil" for allowing Taiwanese authorities to open a "representative office" under the name of "Taiwan" instead of "Taipei".

China has interpreted the move as a diplomatic insult.

Hong Kong government outlaws acts desecrating Chinese flag on the internet

On August 13, 2021, the Hong Kong SAR Government arranged the gazettal of the National Flag and National Emblem (Amendment) Bill following a briefing in the city’s Legislative Council. Both the first and second reading on the amendment bill is scheduled on August 18, 2021.

The amendment Bill outlawed publication of desecrating acts, meaning that “public and intentional desecrating acts in relation to the national flag and national emblem committed in both real life and the virtual world would be an offence.” The document listed “publishing an image of a defiled national flag on Facebook” as an example.

The Bill also proposed extending the time allowable for a prosecution for up to two years “to allow sufficient time for the Police to complete an investigation.”

The Bill stipulated that the national emblem of the national flag should be used appropriately, including not to hang or place the national flag upside down, not to hang the national emblem upside down, not to discard the national emblem of the national flag at will.

At the end of an event, the national emblem and the national flag should be taken down and dispose in accordance with the way prescribed by the Chief Executive.

Following the Amendment, it is an offence to desecrate the national flag and national emblem publicly and intentionally in both the real and virtual world. The maximum penalty remains unchanged, with a maximum fine of 50,000 and imprisonment for three years.
