Police Intercept Watermelon Farmer "Chan Chi-Cheung" Cosplayer

To remember the 7.21 Attack one year ago, civilians wore cosplays of attackers, including white-clad gang member and water-melon farmer Chan Chi-Cheung, to satirise. The citizen cosplaying Chan was intercepted by police, but released at the end.

On the day of 7.21, a man dressed in a pink tee was recorded to have attacked journalists and civilians in multiple videos. He was later to have been found to look very similar to like Chan Chi-cheung, a water-melon farmer/farm owner.

Growing hostility against journalist witnessed among riot police

On the one-year mark of the 7.21 Yuen Long Attack, police obstructed citizens from protesting with a heavy deployment, repeatedly sealing off areas and conducting stop-and-searches. Their attitude toward journalists has grown even worse than before: journalists are now ordered to remove masks in order to verify identities, have their belongings searched, their ID card information recorded, and their faces recorded on police video cameras.

Police Officers Target Volunteer First Aiders on 721 Night

A first-aider was fined by the police, on the grounds of violating the gathering restrictions, after he escorted a civilian who felt unwell to an ambulance at Fung Yau Street North.

Police officers at the scene said in an extremely sarcastic manner that they were specifically targeting volunteer first-aiders. They also comment that the volunteer first aiders at the scene were ”fake first-aiders”, and that they were of no help to the civilians present.

Based on observation, it seems like the police officers at the scene were very concerned as to whether the journalists and first-aiders at the scene were 'real' or not.

Peace in the Midst of Chaos

A year has passed since the 721 attack, where white-clad triad members, allegedly colluding with the Hong Kong Police Force, attacked civilians and passersby. While it has already been a year, there has been no resolution to this incident. Justice has not been served.

A piece of paper with the words, "May everyone stay safe in the midst of the chaos. See you at the bottom of the 'pot' (a term used by Hongkongers for the Legislative Council's protest point)" was found stuck to the parapets of an overpass at YOHO Mall.

There is still a glimmer of hope in the midst of this chaos and darkness.

Police presence was heavy in Yuen Long as early as midday, with police cars, armored cars and water cannon stationed on streets

Tuesday (July 21) marked a year since the 721 Attack which happened last year, where a large group of white-clad gangsters, allegedly colluded with HK police, attacked pro-democracy protesters at the Yuen Long west rail station. Hundreds of innocent civilians were chased and brutally beaten at the station and in neighbouring areas, with many of them ending up severely injured. Netizens initiated activities in remembrance of what had happened, urging the police force to continue investigation and arrest gangsters involved.

7.21 Yuen Long Attacks Worsens Police Impression From All Sectors

// When it comes to the 7.21 incident, the numbers are way higher, proving that the majority of the society was enraged. In general, 82% of respondents had a worse impression of HKPF after the 7.21 incident, which is significantly more influential than the 8.31 incident. Looking into different groups, over 80% of pan-democratic and localist respondents agreed. Shockingly, more than 80% of pro-establishment respondents agreed to that too. Even those who disagreed with the movement agreed that the HKPF is problematic. Such a consensus cannot be seen in the history of public opinion surveys. //
