Starry Lee to hold House Committee Special Meeting on Fri Afternoon; Dennis Kwok to hold Ordinary Meeting on Fri Morning as Usual

(4 May) Starry Lee, the preceding President of The House Committee of the Legislative Council (LegCo), said today (4 May) that she has decided to hold two House Committee meetings this Friday (8 May), with her power conferred by the “Rules of Procedure” and “House Rules” of LegCo, upon taking external legal advice from a Senior Counsel related to President of the Legislative Council and internal legal advice from the Legislative Council Secretariat (Legal Service Division) regarding the issues of the House Committee.

On 8 May morning, Dennis Kwok Wing-hang from the Civic Party shall preside over the House Committee meeting for the election for the President of The House Committee.

On 8 May afternoon, a special meeting will be convened to follow up on the aforementioned legal documents, for committee members’ opinion and for handling other matters.

Starry Lee said, she hopes to elect the new President as soon as possible at the meeting in the morning on Friday. According to the “Rules of Procedure” and “House Rules”, her term does not end until a new President has been elected. The power of the President includes formulating the meeting agenda. So she has taken different advice before making such an arrangement for the two meetings on Friday.

Starry Lee, in Chairman seat, was surrounded and protected by a large number of government security now, while Dennis Kwok stood aside.

The pro-democracy camp expressed their dissatisfaction. There were conflicts going on between the pro-Beijing and pro-democracy camp, and most of the LegCo members are currently still hosting livestreams, covering the situation.
