The Hong Kong police suspended their press conference at around 16:44, after a journalist requested the police to stop violence on members of the press.

Apple Daily announced today (Oct 28) that they will not attend protest-related press conferences held by the Hong Kong Police, until the police start displaying their identification number and the government withdraws the injunction on the disclosure of police personal details (names included).
Apple Daily states that they will continue to acquire information from the police but they refuse to be the mouthpiece of the authorities.

Many US senators proposed a resolution on Tuesday (October 27), seeking to officially declare China's measures against Uyghurs and other Turkic-speaking Muslims in Xinjiang a genocide.
A group of bipartisan senators jointly proposed the draft resolution, but the Congress will not consider it until after the general election next week at the earliest. The resolution states that "China's measures against the Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz and other Muslim minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region constitute genocide".
Republican Senator John Cornyn, the sponsor, said the resolution is a first step toward holding China accountable for its horrific actions. The Co-sponsor, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, said the United States could no longer remain silent. The latest issue of Newsweek reported over 600 organisations with ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), are participating in infiltration and polarisation in the US. In May, an official from the US Department of State said that Chinese propaganda strategies have escalated, by amplifying disinformation from Russia to attribute the COVID-19 pandemic to the US. China is expanding its influences by censoring negative comments and spreading positive ones to unite its people, while threatening to take economic and diplomatic actions to other countries, stated Atlantic magazine.
Analysts and officials from the Department of State suggested that, China is imitating the spread and amplifying misinformation from Russia, in order to put US to blame for the COVID-19 pandemic. "Beijing is pursuing a comprehensive and coordinated influence campaign to advance its interests and undermine the United States. The CCP is employing a whole-of-government approach, using political, economic, military, and information tools to advance its influence", stated Lea Gabrielle, Special Envoy and Coordinator of the Global Engagement Center at the U.S. Department of State.
She also mentioned social media accounts associated with the Chinese government, fabricating and spreading disinformation about the pandemic or simply false information. By questioning US subsidised-laboratories from the former USSR, China is spinning away the attention from its own laboratory at Wuhan, while other related accounts sculpting China as a model for others to follow in combating the virus.
China’s spread of disinformation is not limited to social media, but also state-subsidised international media such as China Daily, Global Times, and China Global Television Network (CGTN). On Oct 26, Commander of US Forces Japan, Kevin Schneider spoke aboard a Japanese warship that the military exercise was to demonstrate the capability "to deliver combat troops to defend the Senkakus or respond to other crises or contingencies." The massive exercise was expected to last for 10 days and ended on Nov 5.
According to CNN, the fleets include 9,000 US troops, a US aircraft carrier strike group, more than 100 US military aircraft, more than 37,000 Japanese troops, a flotilla of 20 Japan Maritime Self Defense Force warships, 100 Japanese military planes, plus a frigate from Canada -- all focused on landing large forces on islands around Okinawa.
The group of uninhabited islands, known as the Diaoyus for China and Senkakus for Japan, has been in dispute for years, but has also been under Japan's administration since 1972. Chinese ships sailing in waters near the Islands earlier this year has drawn condemnation from Japan.

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, criticized China for taking coercive actions in Taiwan Strait during East Asia Summit on Wednesday (27 October). And the actions threatened the peacefulness and stability of regions and reaffirmed that the US commitment to Taiwan is “rock-solid”.
During the summit, Biden said, “We are deeply concerned about China’s coercion action”. He continued, “the US has made a commitment to Taiwan. In fact, the commitment is rock-solid and consistent across successive governments. We will continue to maintain the peacefulness and stability of Taiwan Strait region”.
Biden said last week that the US has the responsibility to provide Taiwan with means of self-defence under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act. The US will defend Taiwan if China attacks them. Biden’s remarks run counter to the US’s consistent “strategic ambiguity” stance on Taiwan.
China later expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden’s remarks and urged Washington not to send the wrong signal to Taiwan, so as not to seriously damage Sino-US relations and the peace and stability of Taiwan Strait.
