Staff of Maxim’s Peking Garden Contracted Coronavirus After Family Gathering; At Least 10 Family Members Infected

Maxim’s Catering announced on Feb 11 that two of their staff members working at two differrent Peking Garden Restaurants in Mongkok's MOKO Mall and Central's Alexandra House were infected with the novel coronavirus.

Currently being treated in the hospital, both of them belong to same family and had participated in the same hotpot gathering at Lento Party Room in Kwun Tong on 26 January.

The gathering was attended by 19 family members and friends, among which 10 have already confirmed infectted with Wuhan pneumonia while 1 was positive in preliminary test.

China's contagious disease expert Zhong Nan-shan and his team has just published a report (without peer review) on the website MedRxiv on February 9. Having analysed nearly 1,100 hospitalized patients infected with the new coronavirus, they found that nearly 72% of them were in contact with people from Wuhan and more than half had no fever symptom in the early stages of the infection.

In addition, the longest incubation period is found to be 24 days. Otherwise, the median incubation period is 3 days, which is shorter than the 5.2 days previously published by another team.

Chinese Hotpot Chain Remains Open for Business Under the Risk of Spreding Coronavirus

HaiDiLao Hotpot, the well-known hotpot chain in China, remains open for business at its two-storey Yau Ma Tei branch. One of the two floors is open despite the recent news on hot pot being the “super-spreader”.

A family of 19 members was sharing a hotpot meal and 13 of them were infected with the coronavirus. On Feburary 10th, Yoshinoya, Café de Coral and Fairwood have announced that they would suspend their hot pot menu.

[Editor's note: HaiDiLao was, according to the police broadcast made to Hong Kong protesters, a place where the police like to go after work, especially their branches in Shenzhen, China]
