Perhaps the Last Remaining Freedom of Speech: HongKongers Buy Out Apple Daily Newspaper at 3am

To show support for #NextMedia and #AppleDaily, many HongKongers said they would still purchase a copy of the newspaper even if it is blank.

At 2am, many people went to Mongkok to look for the latest copy of the newspaper. This is one day after the newspaper's headquarters had been raided by 200 police and its founder Jimmy Lai, his two sons and 4 other management executives had been arrested.

A 26-year-old man bought 50 copies to give out to his colleagues, family, neighbors and friends and to share the last remaining moment of free speech.

Reporters on the scene were also buying a copy for themselves. Before 3am, Apple Daily was sold out in many stalls in Mongkok.

In addition to the personnels related to Apple Daily, police arrested former #Demosisto member #AgnesChow, former #Scholarism member #LeeChongChak and
"#HongKongStory" member #LeeYuHin on the same day.

Hundreds line up at Hong Kong History Museum to witness the last day of "Hong Kong Story" Exhibition

Hundreds of citizens lined up to visit the “Hong Kong Story” exhibit of the Hong Kong History Museum to witness its last day before closing for renovations.

Mr. Chan, a citizen in his 60s, said people should “visit when there is still a chance”. He suspected the purpose of the renovation is to remove historical facts to fit Beijing's "political correctness" and add sections to glorify China.

“If it wasn’t the social movement last year, I wouldn't have realized how much I love Hong Kong”, Chan said, “Looking back at the old times, Hong Kong was so beautiful. There were hard times, but at least the government treated us better.”

Are the Hong Kong Authorities "renewing" the city's history to please the Chinese Communist Government?

The Hong Kong Museum of History announced earlier that the 20-year-long exhibition, Hong Kong Story, will be closed on 19 October for renewal and re-opening is scheduled in 2022.

Founder of a popular Facebook page “Old Hong Kong Photos” and author of history books, Jack Yu revealed that the Museum approached him in 2018, invited him to sponsor materials concerning changing coastal lines in Hong Kong as possible exhibits.

In the meantime, he was also asked to conduct researches on “integration of China-Hong Kong border fronts”. Topics including reduced restricted area at borders, the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Western Passage, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and the launch of High-speed Rail in Hong Kong.

“New projects not even completed at the moment, such like development of country parks and artificial islands were also mentioned as new exhibits,” Yu added.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the supervising body of the Museum denied it as expected.
