"Content farms" promoting China's victory over the epidemic "backfires", authorities "fight falsehoods" to prevent Little Pinks from "being misled" and returning to China

(19 Mar) Recently, a string of articles on the "World Pandemic" appeared on the internet. The text in each article was the same except for the country's name. These "content farms" produced reports like "every country is losing control of the epidemic except China. Chinese people overseas should quickly return home and await further information." Our reporter learned from multiple sources that the creators behind these articles were - like Guo Hong - independent news site proprietors from Fuqing, Fujian. On Thursday (Mar 19), a group of people were accused and under investigation for "fabricating information to mislead many Chinese people to return home, endangering epidemic control efforts". Some analysts speculated, to prevent a "backfire", authorities promptly warned that reports on China's victory over the virus were triggering a wave of Chinese expats to return home, leading to a second outbreak. The authorities were making an example of the accused group to "fight falsehoods". (Reported by Huang Shanshan & Wen Haixin)

Fuqing's independent media proprietor Guo Hong admitted that after fabricating the "World Pandemic" web articles, many Little Pinks* from overseas took it at face value and made plans to return to China.

//A sudden influx of Little Pinks would likely cause the situation to deteriorate again.

//many overseas Chinese were brainwashed by the CCP over many years. Even after emigrating, they continued to rely on official government information and independent media from China.

//these self-serving wumao+ foreign propaganda contractors were duly abandoned.

//The CCP's implementation of compulsory quarantine fees for arrivals broke the hearts of the previously patriotic Chinese from overseas.

Infected Chinese couple took paracetamol and returned to China. 7 people on the plane had fever and all 200 people quarantined

(30 Mar) The novel coronavirus has become a worldwide pandemic. Just as China is reporting a cool down on the pandemic, many Chinese overseas have chosen to return to China to avoid the outbreak. However some people were ill. Tianjin municipal government announced on 22 March that there were four new imported confirmed cases, two of them were a French Chinese couple. They took the flight from Paris to Beijing. A passenger posted on Weibo that the couple had fever symptoms a week before they flew but hided the truth and took paracetamol before boarding the plane. He only reported he had symptoms such as fever, dry cough and headache when he was at immigration. A passenger discovered the French male felt unwell before he boarded but his wife claimed there was no need to worry and explained her husband coughed only because of his smoking habit and “he was fine and was not unwell”. After arriving at Tianjin, as 7 people on the plane had a fever, all 200 people on the plane had to undergo mandatory quarantine.

China’s new polices regarding those intending to or have already emigrated

(14 Jul) China has recently imposed two new policies that greatly affect those intending to or have already emigrated.

The first [policy] is that civil servants are prohibited from emigrating.

//Previously, there was an undesirable trend of public employees emigrating elsewhere.

//Some public employees not only sent their wives and children abroad, but also obtained green cards and foreign passports for themselves...betrays the trust of the people.

//a new policy that affects the interests of Chinese people overseas was recently introduced - to cancel the hukou* of overseas Chinese.

//Whose hukou are subject to cancellation? There are clear guidelines: citizens who are dead, in the army, own a foreign nationality and settled abroad

//you are considered to have settled abroad if:
- you have a green card and have lived abroad for 18 months cumulatively within two years;
- you do not have a green card and have lived abroad for 30 months cumulatively within five years.

#UK Chinese Group Condemns Pro-democracy rally in London and Calls for "response actions"; Netizens mock: Why don’t you go back to China?

UK Hongkonger group "Justitia Hong Kong" organized "Mourning Assembly for the Battles of Chinese University of HK and HK Polytechnic University" rally in London on 12 December, 2020. Over 200 people attended the rally.

A Chinese group in Manchester, "Manchester Chinatown Business Association", however, wrote on their Facebook page, alleging that the London rally was organized by a group of "junk youth-Hong Kong disruptors", and solicited opinions on how to "deal with these people".

The facebook page "Hongkongers in Britain" then released a statement, saying that it is paying attention to the statement made by the Chinese group which aimed to incite hatred and ignored the value of democracy in Britain.

"Manchester Chinatown Business Association" later deleted the post and comments.

"Manchester Chinatown Business Association" issued a bilingual post in Chinese and English on December 16, 2020, alleging the legal rally in London as a group of "anti-Hong Kong disruptors", stating that "they will come to Manchester sooner or later", accusing the participants for disregarding the epidemic risks and safety of others.

The post also called the rally participants "selfish", and asking for members and residents' opinions on "how to deal with these people", "welcome or not welcome". The post was attached with the video of the rally in London on December 12, 2020.

Netizens mocked the Chinese group in the UK, "Why don’t you go back to China?"

Scott Morrison's WeChat account suspected of being hacked, MPs call for boycott over election interference

Australian media reported on Monday (24th January) that Prime Minister Scott Morrison's WeChat official account was suspected of being hacked and turned into a pro-Beijing account “Aohua Xinshenghuo (Australian Chinese New Life)”. His WeChat team has been unable to log in since the beginning of the year. Its 76,000 followers were notified to quit following old accounts. Some parliamentarians believe this is China's interference in Australia's internal affairs in an election year, and call on Australian politicians to boycott WeChat.

The abnormality of Morrison's WeChat public account was first reported by The Daily Telegraph. It was pointed out that earlier this month, Morrison's official WeChat account had been renamed “Aohua Xinshenghuo” and his profile picture had been changed. The account description was now "providing life information for overseas Chinese in Australia".
