In the march on October 20, the Hong Kong police repeatedly fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. The police also deployed water cannon truck and blasted blue-dyed liquid at citizens, reporters, buildings and stores indiscriminately. The Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre (Kowloon Mosque) was also hit.

As the riot police and water cannon truck left the scene, tens of protesters in black shirt and citizens initiated to clean up the Mosque and wipe the blue stain away from the accessible area of the structure.

New Evidence: Water Cannon Truck Can Hardly Shoot "By Mistake"

On October 20, police shot blue-dye water cannon at Kowloon Mosque, staining the structure blue and splashed on citizens standing before the Mosque including former chairman of Indian Association of Hong Kong Mohan Chugani, causing them to suffer from irritative effects and burning sensation. Facing complaints and condemns, police stressed that it was a mistake, although video capturing the shot suggests otherwise.

On October 27, another proof surfaced unvalidating the police statement. The video capturing the control panel of the Water Cannon Truck shows
that it is highly difficult to launch a shot "by mistake": The control panel indicates clearly the target and the distance.

#Banner on Hong Kong's #BeaconHill: "National Security Law, Total Loss of Freedom"

On the evening of October 20, 2020, a gigantic black banner which reads "National Security Law, Total Loss of Freedom" appeared on Hong Kong's Beacon Hill.

The National Security Law has been enforced in Hong Kong for nearly 4 months. Several people including Apple Daily founder Jimmy Lai and former Demosisto member Agnes Chow had been arrested. Meanwhile, a growing number of countries had suspended their extradition treaty with Hong Kong. Nevertheless, the Hong Kong Government insisted that the National Security Law has "safeguarded Hong Kong's stability".

Italian Activists Send Paper Boats Calling to #Save12HKYouths

Radicali Italiani, a liberal party in Italy, has initiated a 12-day campaign demanding China to release the 12 pro-democracy Hongkongers who have been detained for nearly 60 days.

#PatriziaDeGrazia is taking part in a hunger strike on the 6th day on Oct 20, 2020. On the same day, De Grazia, vocalist #StefanoLodola and others made 12 paper boats with the name of the 12 detainees and set them free on River Po in Italy, hoping for the return of the 12 pro-democracy Hongkongers.

Stefano Lodola has been a supporter of Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement. He was known for singing the protest anthem "Glory to Hong Kong" and songs like "Can you hear the people sing?" in Cantonese during the 2019 protests. During the 2014 Umbrella Movement, Lodola had performed "Do You Hear the People Sing" at the occupy zone in Admiralty.

Concern Group Calls for Local and International Attention to Save 12 Pro-democracy Hongkongers Arrested by China

Concern group convener Owen Chow Ka-shing, former Secretary General of Demosisto Joshua Wong Chi-fung and former legislator Eddie Chu Hoi-dik and district councillor Lester Shum called for an online assembly on Sunday, October 25, to show support to the 12 Hongkongers detained in China and their families.

Owen Chow expressed that only international attention could bring hope to this case. He revealed that 30 cities will voice support in various formats around the globe, such as assembly or rally from October 23 to October 25.

With reference to Granny Wong’s experience of detainment in China,  Eddie Chu expressed that with more attention from Hong Kong and around the world, the treatment of those detained in China will be significantly improved. He asked Hongkongers to continue paying attention to the case in order to put pressure on Chinese authorities.

Joshua Wong sponsored printing 50,000 copies of “Never Forget 12 Fellow Protesters” on transparency sheets in a bid to encourage Hongkongers’ continued support. Each sheet carried a name of one of the detainees, a small boat and a short message that read, “Bring Them Back”.

The design of the transparencies was inspired by Zhen Jianghua, a human right activist in China who was also arrested and detained.

Lester Shum said that 23 October marks the 60th day since the 12 youths' official arrest and detainment in China.  Shum asked for Hongkongers' attention on this case, which he believed would provide support to the detainees and their families, so that they would know that they were not left alone.

Pastor: homeless man had no suicidal tendency despite Police found his death “not suspicious”

A Vietnamese homeless man in Hong Kong, Le Van Muoi, reportedly “hanged himself to death on a pair of long pants” while detained at Siu Lam Psychiatric Center.

Pastor Timothy Lam Kwok-Cheung told reporter of Stand News that he was informed by Le's forensic officer that Ah Muoi was “strangled" with a pair of long pants, not “hanged”.

Lam quoted the forensic officer’s report, which stated that Ah Muoi has been detained in Lai Chi Kok detention center since September 28, 2020. He was transferred to Siu Lam Psychiatric Center on October 7 for behavioral issues. On October 8, Ah Muoi was found hanging on a pair of long pants.  Despite medical treatment in Tuen Mun hospital, Ah Muoi passed away on October 9.

The Pastor also stressed that when questioned by the forensic officer, police on the scene said that the cause of Ah Muoi’s death is “not suspicious”.  Lam said the police officer's written statement claimed that Ah Muoi had displayed self-destructive behavior at Siu Lam Psychiatric Center.  Lam, who had been in contact with Ah Muoi for years, disagreed.

Lam said Ah Muoi had no suicidal tendency; whether he committed suicide by hanging himself remained inconclusive.

Sweden Banned 5G Erection from Huawei Due to the National Security, China Opposed the Abuse of the Idea of “National Security”

Following the US and the UK banning Chinese companies Huawei from building 5G networks, Sweden Postal and Telecommunications Administration announced today (20th October) that they decided to prohibit Huawei and ZTE from participating in the local 5G network erection. They also required the local telecom to remove all equipment produced by Huawei and ZTE from existing core functional devices before 2025.

Sweden will have an auction of the 5G spectrum next month. Klas Friberg, the Head of the Domestic Security Service of Sweden, described China as one of the biggest threats in Sweden, referring to China’s large-scale collection of intelligence, theft of technology and research to assist its economic development and military strength. He also worried that allowing Chinese entrepreneurs to participate in the local 5G network erection was hard to guarantee their national security.

Indonesia Refuses Landing of US Military Aircrafts for Refuels, Vows to “Remain Neutral” amid Growing Sino-American Tensions

Reuters quoted four high-ranking Indonesian officials on 20 October as saying that Indonesia had refused earlier this year to let America’s P-8 patrol aircrafts land and refuel. It was claimed that Indonesia wished to “remain neutral” diplomatically as it had always been amid the increasingly fierce competition between the US and China.

The report quoted the sources as saying that US officials had repeatedly contacted Indonesia’s defence and foreign ministers at a “high level” in July and August. According to the sources, the US was seeking permission to land and refuel its P-8 maritime patrol aircrafts, responsible for monitoring China’s actions in the South China Sea. The request was denied by Indonesian president Joko Widodo.

The report said the request surprised Indonesia, which had remained neutral diplomatically and had never allowed foreign military activities in its territory as the sources noted. As US-China tensions mount in Southeast Asia, Indonesian foreign minister Retno Marsudi said in September that Indonesia did not wish to be involved in their competition.
