Police end rally, enter Chater Garden and shoot at unarmed crowd

On January 19, riot police and raptor squads entered Chater Garden and dispersed those attending the ā€œRally for Global Sanctions Against Communist China,ā€ after the rally was ended prematurely. However, because of the large size of the crowd attending the rally, many were trapped inside Chater Garden.

Some members of raptor squads fired pepper-spray pellets at those trapped inside the park, even though the attendees at the rally had not taken any actions against police. Police also used pepper spray on reporters who were filming at the scene.

Riot police lock up young man in public toilet for search and bar press from filming

At around 6pm on January 19, riot police barged into a public toilet in Chater Garden to intercept and search a young man.

During the search, police officers locked the toilet door to prevent reporters from entering the toilet to film the process.
Since no one can see what had happened inside the toilet, anxious bystanders shouted, ā€œare you trying to kill him?ā€

The young man was searched and interrogated for around half an hour before taken away.

Tencent-funded 'Top Gun' Cuts Taiwan and Japan flags from Tom Cruise's Jacket

"Top Gun: Maverick" released its movie trailer last year. However, sharp-eyed fans from around the world noticed some changes to Tom Cruise's character, other than age catching up with the character.

The old jacket that the main character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell wore in the original 80s classic had the Taiwanese and Japanese country flag patches on it. However, in the new one as seen in the trailer, those flags have been replaced by two symbols with similar color schemes.

According to journalist Mark MacKinnnon, a Senior International Correspondent for Canada's The Globe and Mail, he mentioned that there was a new Top Gun movie coming out, and that Maverick was wearing the same leather jacket, just that this time, with the Taiwanese and Japanese flags removed, it is approved by the Chinese Communist Party.

We are seeing a stark increase in Hollywood movies bowing down to 'Chinese sensitivities'. While filmmakers are often found defending such actions, using the Chinese box office as an excuse, we know that this is a clear example of the Chinese Communist Party's influence in the West. Companies such as Tencent will be earning direct from a cut of the profits made out of it.

Actions speak louder than words. If we talk about boycotting Chinese products and Chinese companies, then we should also start boycotting such movies as well.

Chinese-backed company's mission - What is China up to?

A China-backed company, Greenland Group, gathered large amount of essential medical items and shipped back to China for assisting in efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus since January. Every staff are even required to assist the company to hoard medical supplies in different countries over other work activities. The efforts of Chinese companies to help their compatriots back home may have contributed to shortages of products in Australia, which definitely is a selfish behavior. Nevertheless, Greenland now claimed that they are gathering supplies to donate to medical staffs in Australia. Is it possible to ship the goods to China for gathering supplies for donating to Australian?

On the other hand, Sydney-based former officer, Kuang, who attended a military academy in Wuhan before, has been working with a Chinesse government entity, organised crime to export tonnes of Australian medical supplies to Wuhan in February. However, he is now planning to bring medical equipment to Australia for medical staffs. Why would he do so? Obviously, he has been working with Chinese officials to get approval to charter a flight to bring medical supplies to Australia. In fact, these are how Chinese propaganda works to show her mighty and kindness to help the world combatting the spread of COVID-19. China keep donating medical equipment to the world, especially Spain and Italy. Yet, those medical equipment are refused by some countries as those are unqualified. Seems like the reputation cannot be rebuilt by ā€˜Donatingā€™ the medical supplies.

As many medical experts are concerning about the shortage of protective equipment, Federal Government will move to ban and heavily penalise Australians from exporting anti-pandemic equipment to China, with those caught facing up to five years in prison. It seems like Australia revealed the truth of those Beijingā€™s aid campaigns and tried to stop the drama. The headstream of shortage of crucial medical supplies due to Chinese have been hoarding those supplies all over the world. But then they are trying to be a savior by donating equipment purchased from other countries or donating unqualified stuff and ask for appreciation. Itā€™s exactly what insane do! Perhaps the world understands how China being, but they could not against China as she became an essential part of the economic globalization, in manufacturing or financial support. Will COVID-19 become a lesson of the world to arouse the alertness to China?

From 'Perfect Chinese Daughter' to Communist Party Critic: Why Vicky Xu is exposing China to scrutiny

"If something happens to me you know I've been murdered."

It's a joke journalist Vicky Xiuzhong Xu makes in her stand-up comedy routine, but the reality is that she's had a lot of death threats.

Today, Xu is one of the first journalists in Australia to lift the lid on the incarceration of Uyghurs in China, convincing members of the Australian-Uyghur community to go on the record with their stories of missing relatives.

It is believed that since 2017, China has forced at least 1 million Uyghurs, a Turkic-Muslim minority group, into political indoctrination camps in Xinjiang.

As the lead author of a report released last week, Xu has exposed the forced labour of tens of thousands of Uyghurs and other oppressed minority Muslims, detained, "re-educated" and despatched to work in factories outside of Xinjiang that supply Nike, Apple, Adidas and 80 other well-known clothing, automotive and technology brands.

'If you don't love China you're not one of them'

What led a young woman, one of her country's "best and brightest", to turn away from her government's ideology, but not her people? It's been an uneasy, sometimes agonising passage.

A dutiful child, Xu grew up with all the attention of her parents. She had violin, maths and physics tutors, and even an English tutor. Xu practised the violin until her chin was callused.

In 2012, She enrolled in an English broadcasting course which she claimed was designed to "cultivate TV personalities who are politically loyal, who seem worldly and savvy and can talk about issues with impeccable Western accents".

In 2014, Xu took a gap year and moved to Perth to teach Mandarin at a local high school. She saw a poster advertising a documentary on Tiananmen Square, a place she and her university friends had wandered at night after late-night partying.

In 1989, students killed when they were protesting for greater freedom and democracy.

When she saw the film, Xu was grief-stricken and angry because she had known nothing about what had happened, whitewashed from China's history. She felt betrayed.

Xu was still not convinced by what she saw. There were reports pointing fingers at CIA involvement in the massacre, she thought they could be true.

At the university, she was overwhelmed by the negative information about China and the accusations of human rights abuses. Her mindset however, was starting to shift.

For one of her assignments, she interviewed dissidents from China. One of them was Lebao Wu.

"I thought he was a fraud and I was going to interview him, write about him, and expose him."

He was a maths teacher who made jokes about China's leaders online and was put in prison and forced to do hard labour for 14 hours a day. When he was released and settled in Australia he was diagnosed with PTSD and a variety of mental health issues.

His story of injustice moved Xu.

"I was very touched by his story, and it made me rethink a lot of my previous stances."

Xu received face-to-face warnings over an article that she was wrote, addressing the government's inaction following a flood. Authorities later stopped her at a train station and warned her again.

Her family has repeatedly warned her not to return to China. She may never get see them again.

Sacrifices were made. However, whatever that she has done has made such an impact, an impact that could possibly save the lives of the vulnerable. At only 25, she has achieved what many journalists never will in a lifetime.

"I think it's just going to be like a continuous path to pursue freedom, and you can never have too much #freedom , or a voice. You know, you can never have too much #justice."

ā€˜Canā€™t sell your soulā€™: Mick Malthouse calls for AFL to boycott China

Coaching great Mick Malthouse has called on the AFL to boycott China, pinning the blame for the coronavirus pandemic on the east Asian nation.

Malthouse says whatever the monetary value the AFL should not be played in China again, telling The Herald Sun he would ā€œvery, very reluctantā€ to play a game in a country that ā€œhas put us in this positionā€.

ā€œ AFL players are only going to be going there for one reason (money) ā€“ you sell your soul.ā€

He said ā€œIā€™m not anti-Chinese. Am I anti-Chinese government? Yes I am. Any regimen that suppresses free opinion, free voice, free religion automatically riles me.

ā€œBut I donā€™t think we should be seen to be selling our soul to a regime that clearly has different values than we do.ā€
