Police Pepperspray the Crowd, Push Pregnant Woman Down and Arrest Her Husband for Reasons Unknown

Last year on August 31, police violently attacked train passengers indiscriminately by pepperspray and batons at Prince Edward Station.

This year on the same day, police not only removed flowers lay by citizens to commemorate the victims of police violence, but also detained and ticketed many civilians passing by the area.

The video captured what happened at around 10pm: Police suddenly pulled a man away and, meanwhile, dragged his 8-month pregnant wife to the ground. Police then peppersprayed the onlookers indiscriminately.

With the crowd screaming, the reporter filming the video kept saying "watch out!".

Police Statement Contradicted by Reporters' Videos

On Aug 31, 2020, Hong Kong police choked, peppersprayed and pushed a 8-month pregnant woman on the ground.

Although the Police Force released a statement claiming their concern for the female citizen, videos recorded by reporters on the site have shown how the police assaulted the lady and her husband in the middle of the street.

The video captures the moment when the pregnant lady was dragged down by the police. The lady's husband was arrested by the police afterwards.

On 31 Aug 2020, police arrested at least 14 civilians and cited the violation of anti-pandemic measures as a reason to issue at least 37 tickets.

More cases reveal Hong Kong Police abusing powers over innocent pro-democracy supporters

On August 31, 2020 pro-democracy supporters gathered in remembrance of the #PrinceEdwardAttack, where Hong Kong riot police assaulted peaceful civilians in Prince Edward subway station.

On that evening, police officer made multiple attempts to disperse the crowd. Rounds of pepper-spray were deployed and a woman who was 7-8 months’ pregnant was allegedly neck-locked and dragged by a police office to the ground.

The woman was reportedly injured and sent to the hospital. Her husband, who was also present, was subdued and arrested by the police, accused of disorderly conduct at a public place.

Six months later, on February 25, 2021, Yu Tak-po, vice-chairman of Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok District Council wrote on his Facebook that the police has withdrawn the case and dropped charges.
