At the time of writing, 1,727,038 cases of the coronavirus had been confirmed in 210 countries and territories. The US, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France continue to be the worst affected countries by this pandemic.
The worldwide death toll of this pandemic has now reached 104,923.
The US now has 506,008 confirmed cases of the virus with most cases in the state of New York.
The United Kingdom's coronavirus death toll rises by 917. It has confirmed 78,991 cases of the virus so far.
India reported its biggest single-day jump in cases, with 1,035 new cases.
Japan also had its biggest single-day leap in cases, with 658 new cases and six more deaths.
The number of coronavirus deaths in Brazil has almost tripled in a week. The country now has 19,789 cases.
Ecuador reported a significant jump of 2,196 new coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 7,161, residents said health services are mishandling victims' bodies.
German President Steinmeier to give a rare address as death toll jumps by 171.
The Spanish government will distribute roughly 10 million masks to workers returning to their jobs beginning this week when restrictions will be relaxed.
Austria gradually lifts lockdown after Easter, but quarantine in prominent ski resorts has been extended.

A man in Thailand discovered that the thermometer he recently bought always gives a reading below 37 degrees celsius.
2 Chinese men have been arrested in Bangkok for smuggling fake Covid-19 test kits into Thailand. 45,000 fake Covid-19 test kits, 350,000 medical masks, and 1,200 infrared thermometers were seized. The evidence was valued at 33,750,000 baht.
According to the Thai FDA, all products claiming to be Covid-19 test kits online at the moment are fake.

In the morning of April 5, a large group of government supporters were reported to have gathered at the Lei Muk Shue Estate Lennon Wall and committed property damage by spraying ink stored in a large pesticide container onto the walls and the ground.
A female passerby had attempted to dissuade the damage, citing effects on public hygiene, but was persued and harassed by the armed crowd. The pro-government supporters sprayed ink at the victim, causing injuries. The situation could have been worse without the intervention of a male passerby.
During the second wave of the coronavirus outbreak, the government has announced a ban on group gatherings; however, many questioned the effectiveness of the policy and the fairness of its enforcement.
For instance, elderly people could still be seen gambling in public housing estates in Tsuen Wan, which reportedly operated by a clique-like group. While members could be seen scouting for police in said gambling groups and using vile language to deter police officers enforcing the ban, the police ignores these groups, with the gambling situation continuing as normal.
On the contrary, queueing crowds looking to buy takeaways were dispersed outside restaurants by police officers enforcing the ban.

HK Schools Resumed after "Early Summer Vacation", with Daily Rapid Testing for Students
During the daily #COVID19 press conference on April 11, Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced plans for schools to resume beginning on April 19, after nearly 2 months of suspension due to a wave of #Omicron sweeping through the city.
Students will need to take a rapid test every day before attending school; only those with a negative result will be allowed in.
The government also laid out guidelines for closing schools: if 5% of a school's students and staff test positive, the Centre for Health Protection (#CHP) will investigate the outbreak.
Vaccination will not be required for students, but those without it will not be allowed to attend extracurricular activities.
The timeline for resuming in-person classes:
Secondary schools: Starting May 3, schools can resume their classes in stages or entirely. By May 10, all classes must resume.
Primary schools: classes can resume in stages or entirely starting April 19. All classes must resume by May 3.
Kindergartens: One-third of classes are to resume starting May 3, with the remaining to resume on May 10. All classes must resume by May 16.
This will bring an end to the suspension of classes, which was began on Feb 21 when the government announced an "early summer vacation" for all schools.
During the press conference, Carrie Lam expressed her thanks that more schools have proactively taken anti-pandemic measures, including arranging vaccinations and distributing prevention kits, as a result of the government-mandated "summer vacation".
During the questioning period, a NowTV reporter asked whether parents could opt for online classes, instead of sending their children to school.
Secretary of Education Kevin Yeung replied that the policy was a balance between needs and risks, and they found that despite the risk being non-zero, resuming in-person classes was necessary. He further stated that students aged 6-15 are required by law to attend school.
