Eye for Hong Kong Campaign

“The bill is dead”, following the non-legal binding announcement made by HK Chief Executive Carrie Lam on the extradition bill, the city is dying too. HKSAR Government refuses to set up an independent commission of inquiry to look into the saga. In response to the voices of people, HK police collude with triads to beat citizens indiscriminately (both peaceful protestors and non-protestors). A young girl, who volunteered herself to be a first-aider in a peaceful protest on 11 Aug 2019, was shot in the right eye by the police causing permanent vision loss.

This kind of physical and psychological violence routinely happens in Hong Kong now. The number of laws and regulations being breached by the so called law enforcement body in the past 2 months is just uncountable. The authority is creating violence every day and using brutality to rule the city.

The universal values that everyone on Earth embraces: freedom, justice, rule of law... are now at stake in Hong Kong. Our eyes can be taken, but truth can’t be.
To show your support to Hong Kong, please join the “Eye for Hong Kong Campaign”: upload a selfie to Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Reddit with your right eye covered. We recommend you wearing a mask, which symbolizes Hong Kong people’s fear of expression, and also to protect you identity. Remember to tag at least 4 friends of yours, and the following:

[International Views part 1/2]

Benedict Rogers, a British human rights activist and journalist based in London, thinks “Carrie Lam's announcement to withdraw extradition bill is welcome but is far too little, far too late”. Not only because of current police brutality, arbitrary arrests at a severe and shocking level and probably turning Hong Kong into a police state, but also the rejection of Independent inquiry into police brutality showing her lack of sincere to resolve the crisis. Moreover, he stated that “the problem isn't just the bill, it's the system itself”, so an ultimate solution to cease the protest is “democratic political reforms including full universal suffrage for all LegCo seats in 2020 election and full universal suffrage for Chief Executive election 2022”

Domestic Helpers In HK: Reporting on pro-democracy employees..? [1/2]

There are rumours about online posts urging domestic helpers to report their employers who are suspected to have participated in the recent protests, causing widespread worry.

But wait, have you fact checked on these rumours? Well we know you haven’t. We have reached out to the original author of that post, who is an Indonesian and has been working in HK for so many years. She is talented, enjoys writing, and is very concerned about the society. She has spent her holidays going to the protest scenes, writing and reporting about the protests, and translating local news to Indonesian, with hopes that more fellow domestic helpers could know what is happening.

Recently, she had translated a post on a “Uncovering Protestors” website, and she had never intended to encourage others to report and reveal the identity of the protestors. She also mentioned that the poster urging people to uncover protestors was NOT her work and the Indonesian on that poster seemed to come from Google translate instead. She suspects that the perpetrator simply wanted to create conflicts and hatred.
She is very upset about the misuse of her work and emphasises that “Our solidarity is always with HK people” and she stands with HK.

By the way, A lot of domestic helpers support our movement. They know our pain as they speak from their own experience about the Police’s abuse of power and authoritarian ruling, in their home countries.

This movement connects us all and solidarity is among everybody, regardless of nationality. Our fellow friends, include those of different skin colours.

More points to add, similar incidents happen since the protest starts. Examples include disguising as a foreign teacher in Hong Kong to insult protestors on Facebook; stealing a physiotherapist’s Facebook account to insult the First Aider who lost her eye; pretending the First Aider herself to spread fake news, etc.
