Beijing calls Australians "Poor White Trash"

The Global Times, a news website heavily aligned with the Chinese Communist Party, has called Australians “poor white trash”, warning that there will be “consequences” if the Australians do not play nice with China.

In recent months, relations between Beijing and Canberra have become increasingly fractious due to actions taken by Australia which has been deemed as an act of scrutiny towards China, a provokation.

China has been retaliating as well. In addition to the numerous retaliations, just recently, an Australian journalist for China’s state run television was detained for reasons unclear.

Calls mount, frustration grows over Trudeau’s promise to help Hong Kong

After launching the first series of actions aimed at supporting the people of Hong Kong, neither Trudeau nor his government has made any new pronouncements on Hong Kong despite the worsening situation in the area, causing frustrations from activists, human-rights groups and others.

That stands in contrast to Britain and Australia, both of which have announced some measures to make it easier for people to leave Hong Kong and make new lives in those two countries.

Last Hong Kong governor calls for joint effort among countries to stand up to China

Chris Patten, the last British governor of Hong Kong, is appealing to countries including Canada to take co-ordinated action against Beijing’s crackdown on civil rights in Hong Kong.

It has been close to three months since China imposed the national security law on Hong Kong – one that criminalizes dissent and opposition. However, many Western countries have taken little action aside from suspending extradition treaties with Hong Kong.

Patten has called for parliamentary committees around the world to probe the crushing of human rights in Hong Kong.

Biden on Sanctioning China: Punishment not the focus, but more about following rules

President-elect Joe Biden spoke at a recent press conference about his decision on the US Treasury secretary candidate, which will be announced around the Thanksgiving holiday. Biden also spoke about his intention to ensure China play by the rules, and "it's not so much about punishing China."

#US Human Rights Group Urges US State Secretary to Pressure China on HK Issue

On March 18, 2021, the US Secretary of State #AntonyBlinken met with Chinese Politburo Member Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the first high-level meeting since President #Biden took office in January 2021.

A day before the high-level meeting, Francis Hui Wing-ting, founder of We The Hongkongers, a group of Hongkongers in the US, spoke to the media outside the White House alongside Tibetans and Uighurs.

Hui urged US representatives to put pressure on China's Human Rights issues in the meeting.

Hui talked about recent political oppressions in Hong Kong in the press conference, “all my friends in Hong Kong are either in prison or in exile.” She mentioned that the press conference would become evidence of her collusion with foreign powers under the National Security Law in Hong Kong.

Hui pointed out that the US decision to further sanction 24 Chinese and Hong Kong officials in the wake of the high-level meeting shows the US stance on Chinese affairs. She hoped Blinken to put further pressure on Chinese officials and to bring issues of Hong Kong, East Turkistan, Tibet and Taiwan onto the table in the meeting.

EU, China impose tit-for-tat sanctions over Xinjiang abuses

The European Union imposed sanctions on Mar 22 on four Chinese officials, including a top security director, for human rights abuses in Xinjiang, to which Beijing responded with its own sanctions on Europeans.

The first significant sanctions was imposed by EU since an EU arms embargo in 1989 following the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy crackdown indicates a change in posture.

In its Official Journal, the EU accused Chen of “arbitrary detentions and degrading treatment inflicted upon Uighurs and people from other Muslim ethnic minorities, as well as systematic violations of their freedom of religion or belief”.

US Condemned CCP's Sanctions on the US and Canadian Officials and Organisations: Beijing Tried to Intimidate to Silence the International Society

The sanctions between China, Europe and the US due to Xinjiang human rights issues become more intense. Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China announced the sanction to two American religious people and two Canadian representatives. US Secretary of State Antony John Blinken replied that Beijing's behaviours were aiming to silence all people who spoke for basic human rights and freedom, reiterating that the US, Canada and the European Union would not withdraw.

The statement of Blinken condemned that the CCP's sanction on the two American The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom(USCIRF) officials was not reasonable, obviously revenging US sanctions on Chinese officials due to Xinjiang serious violation of human rights.

Blinken stated that Beijing used intimidation to attempt to silence the international violation of basic human rights and freedoms and genocide in Xinjiang. He emphasised that the US, Canada, the EU and the global alliances will stand together, claim to Beijing for stopping the violation of targeting minorities and dissidents, and release the people who have been randomly arrested.
