[China's Cultural Genocide and Sinicization: Uyghurs and Tibet- Part 1 of 2]

Uyghur women sterilized by China

In China's Uyghur detention camps, former detainees have told of torture, beatings and electrocution as well as being forced to eat pork, attend political re-education lessons and sing political songs. It is also revealed that Uyghur Muslim women are being sterilized (*watch video from the first link*)

Researchers have claimed the facilities are being run like “wartime concentration camps” as part of a “systematic campaign of social re-engineering and cultural genocide”.

Gulbahar Jalilova, who was held for more than a year in government, recounted that up to 50 people were packed into a cell measuring just 10ft by 20ft. Women were forced to received injection: “We had to stick our arms out through a small opening in the door,” she said. ”We soon realized that after our injections that we didn’t get our periods any more.”

A similar account was given by 30-year-old Mehrigul Tursun who were given drugs and injections in the camp. She said she felt “tired for about a week, lost my memories and felt depressed” and was released four months later after being diagnosed as being mentally ill.

The Population Research Institute accused China of forced sterilization on a large scale.

“The current Uyghur population is less than 1 per cent of China’s total population,” the group said. “To restrict and control the natural growth of a population of this size in any country is to totally annihilate and genocide them.

The Chinese government however has described the detention camps as “boarding schools” offering vocational training and rejected allegations of torture and other abuses as “fake news”. It was reported that China is building even more secret camps.

Tibet: The CCP Launches a Campaign Against Prayer Flags

//Nothing is more typical of Tibetan culture and religion than religious banners. They are now being taken down, village after village, as persecution of religion escalates.

//They are sacred artifacts, believed to create peace and harmony. Their five colors—blue, white, red, green, and yellow—represent the five elements and the five wisdoms of Buddhism... Devotees believe that the wind, by moving the prayer flags, will spread compassion and goodwill around, for the benefit of both Buddhists and non-Buddhists...They are not merely ornamental...

//The CCP is trying to destroy Tibetan religion and culture, leaving only a “Disneyfied” version for the benefit of naïve tourists. This effort is decade-old, but has increased under Xi Jinping... increasing use of torture against monks, nuns, and lay Buddhists, “thousands” of whom were arrested and detained in 2019. A new August 2019 law cancelled the pensions of those former government workers caught participating in any religious activity... the CCP announced, only a “modern, socialist system of Buddhism” will be allowed to (precariously) survive.

//CCP has now started taking down prayer flags from hilltops and villages... The campaign started in Qinghai’s Golog (Guoluo) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and in Tengchen (Dingqing) county in the Chamdo municipality, Tibet Autonomous Region, and is now extending elsewhere... The campaign is carried out under the pretext of “environmental cleanup,” although the CCP also mentions “behavioral reform” of non-sinicized, non-socialist Buddhism.

//From the point of view of the devotees, this is both offense and sacrilege...those who have protested again similar moves by the CCP... have been immediately arrested, and often tortured. The prayer flags are the very soul of Tibet. Even those who are not Buddhist should protest this new manifestation of cultural genocide.

China Pushes 85% of Population Speaking Putonghua by 2025 Even Among Ethnic Minorities

The #PRCgovernment is stepping up efforts to popularize #Putonghua in China, claiming that the use of putonghua remains “unbalanced and inadequate” and needs to be improved to meet the demands of the modern economy.

For the first time, the #PRC government named the two Special Administrative Regions, #HongKong and #Macau, for the new policy.

On November 30, the General Office of the State Council issued a set of new policies on language for #PRC, “Opinions of the General Office of the State Council on Comprehensively Strengthening Language and Writing Work in the New Era (關於全面加強新時代語言文字工作的意見)”.

The policy stressed the importance of speaking and using a standardized language, saying that the authorities will “unswervingly" promote the usage among ethnic minorities and in rural areas.

It also set a goal for the national penetration rate of Putonghua to reach 85% by 2025. Along with the 2025 goal, the policy aims to make Putonghua virtually universal by 2035, including in rural areas and among #EthnicMinorities.

The media described the new order as an “aggressive push” to the Chinese regional dialects such as #Cantonese and #Hokkien under even greater pressure, along with #minority languages such as #Tibetan, #Mongolian and #Uyghur.

Critics have protested the changes to the education system and employment requirements that have steadily eroded the role of minority languages. They call it a campaign to eradicate cultures that do not conform with the dominant ethnic group.
