Eight Hong Kong Exiled Activists Launched the "2021 Hong Kong Charter" to prevent the Hong Kong protest bubble.

On 14 March, 2021, diasporic Hong Kong activists, including Nathan Law Kwun-Chung, Ted Hui Chi-Fung and Brian Leung Kai-ping, issued the "2021 Hong Kong Charter", suggesting the protest direction for overseas Hong Kongers.

The Charter initiators stated at their press conference about the probability of the Hong Kong overseas protest bubble. Thus, they would like to unite Hong Kongers through this Charter.

In the press conference, Brian Leung said that Hong Kongers continued uttering to the world since 2019, but Hong Kongers can no longer speak freely. They should connect global protesters networks, understand local people's lives and find out channels to continue communicating with the world. The Charter includes the belief of Hong Kongers overseas and advocating the protest direction at different levels which were divided into three parts, Hong Kong, China and International.

The "2021 Hong Kong Charter" is led by Nathan Law Kwun-Chung, Sunny Cheung Kwan-yang, Ted Hui Chi-Fung, Brian Leung Kai-Ping, Glacier Kwong Chung-Ching, Ray Wong Toi-Yeung and Baggio Leung Chung-Hang.

The Charter states that Hong Kongers have started fighting for a democratic system since the 1980s. Nevertheless, the Chinese Communist Party (#CCP) nature, a one-party system, remains unchanged. After breaching Sino-British Joint Declaration repeatedly, one-country-two-systems were declared to be dead. This Charter aims to unite overseas Hong Kongers and cohere their power at the international level to prepare for the protest.

In the press conference, Sunny Cheung mentioned that many different democracy movements had initiated Charters in the past, such as Nobel Peace Prize Liu Xiaobo launched "Charter 08". So, He would record Hong Kongers' voices through this Charter.

Documentary Film ‘Inside the Red Brick Wall’ Pulled from Hong Kong Release

An award-winning Hong Kong protest documentary, “Inside the Red Brick Wall” has been pulled out at the last minute from a local cinema, despite overwhelming public support.

In Hong Kong, the #GoldenSceneCinema announced on its Instagram page on March 15, 2021 that screenings of “Inside the Red Brick Wall” later that day and others scheduled for March 21, 2021 will be canceled.

The cinema apologized for the inconvenience caused, asked for movie-goers’ understanding and offered refunds.

The Hong Kong Film Critics Society and the Cinema’s decision came soon after #CCP mouth-piece’s heavy critic four days ago.

An editorial on Wen Wei Po blamed that a public screening of the film would incite hatred of China’s central government, the Hong Kong government and the police, which may violate the #NationalSecurityLaw.The paper also accused the film of violating the Film Censorship Ordinance due to its coarse language and detailed depiction of violence.

Notes to editors:
“Inside the Red Brick Wall” was part of a screening series of winners of the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards staged at Golden Scene Cinema, a recently-opened outlet operated by homegrown film company Golden Scene. It was named as best film by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society in January, 2021 and it would have been the first time the film had a commercial screening.

Hong Kong Doctors Criticize the Government for Delayed Information, As Guidelines Arrives Half a Month after #Vaccination Program Begins

In Hong Kong, there were at least 7 deaths following the China-made #Sinovac #COVID19 vaccination. On March 15, 2021, the Hong Kong government's Department of Health finally released an "Interim Guidance Notes" regarding the China-made vaccines for medical doctors, nearly 3 weeks after the vaccination program has begun.

The guidelines include a list of conditions under which people should not receive the vaccine, including those who had a history of allergic reaction to other Covid19 vaccine, inactivated vaccine, or any other vaccines in general; those with severe neurological conditions; uncontrolled severe chronic illnesses; as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The chairperson of the Public Doctors Association (#HKPDA) in Hong Kong, Dr. Ma Chung-yee, noted that the newly-released guidelines actually consisted mostly of old information. She said that it did not read like a professional document for practicing doctors.

Another private doctor who wished to remain anonymous criticized that the guidelines has "no help at all" to practitioners. He accused the government for passing on the medical liabilities to frontline doctors, making them responsible for verifying that patients didn't have any of the described conditions before administering the vaccine.

Since the vaccination program began on Feb 26, 2021, there had been no government-issued guidelines until this interim document; some doctors have been criticizing that the required information is coming too slowly.

According to Dr. Ivan Hung, chairperson of the government's "Expert Committee on Clinical Events Assessment following COVID-19 Immunization", the delay was caused by the time they needed to gather the relevant information.

Government blocks motion to recognise China's treatment of Uighurs as genocide

The federal government and Labor blocked the motion proposed by Independent senator Rex Patrick to the Chinese government's actions against the Muslim minority as "genocide".

“It is most regrettable that Coalition and Labor Senators combined to block a vote on a motion that recognises the incontrovertible fact that the Chinese Government is engaged in a campaign against the Uyghur people that constitutes an international crime within the scope of the 1948 Genocide Convention," Senator Patrick said.

Liberal Senator Jonathan Duniam said the government did not believe the motion was an appropriate means of addressing the human rights concerns. Labor Senator Katy Gallagher also said the party strongly condemned the "human rights violations" against Uighurs and other ethnic minorities.
