Keep Your Distance, Especially From China

"This catastrophe is indeed an example of the survival of the fittest, but it is not limited to a war between humans’ immune system and the virus, it is also a war between ideologies and information.

Basically, the severely affected areas of the Coronavirus, such as Italy and Spain in Europe, and Japan and South Korea in Asia, are the countries who “believed in” China and the World Health Organisation, and did not make their own judgement regarding the validity of the data provided by China, not to mention their awareness of the benefits of border closure and the potential dangers of the influx of Chinese tourists."

Keep your distance, especially from China

This catastrophe is indeed an example of the survival of the fittest, but it is not limited to a war between humans’ immune system and the virus, it is also a war between ideologies and information.

Basically, the severely affected areas of the Coronavirus, such as Italy and Spain in Europe, and Japan and South Korea in Asia, are the countries who “believed in” China and the World Health Organisation, and did not make their own judgement regarding the validity of the data provided by China, not to mention their awareness of the benefits of border closure and the potential dangers of the influx of Chinese tourists.

Then it comes to the nominees for the “Darwin Awards” - those who took the “Coronavirus Challenge” upon themselves on TikTok. As a brand, TikTok has its own values and culture. It is apparent that TikTok has a unique enchantment that draws the addicted ones to death like sirens.

Ironically, in the era of China’s rising as a Sharp Power, complete distrust in the Communist Party of China and its news has become a essential tactic for survival, of which was adopted by the government and people of ROC (Taiwan) and citizens of Hong Kong, who earned a moment of peace between the waves of Coronavirus outbreaks despite their geographic closeness to China and a social network closely tied with the country, even closer than those owned by Japan and South Korea.

They adopted universal mask wearing, a tactic mocked and frowned upon by people around the world, and social distancing, a tactic many authorities doubted due to the people's willingness to comply. Unsurprisingly, foreign governments' delayed responses resulted in their untrustworthiness among their people.

Still, some religious groups solemnly believe that their rituals remain unaffected by the Coronavirus pandemic, and thus reject any interference to their practices by the government’s quarantine inspections as they insist on enacting their freedom of religion. One of the super-spreaders in South Korea ignited an irremediable outbreak of the virus within her cult.

Even now, a notorious terrorist organisation halted their penetration and attacks on Europe to avoid infection. It seems that everyone is equal before the virus, regardless of differences in religion and race.

We hope our readers can “suspend” their social and religious routines. You need your life to celebrate what you love and believe. Corpses cannot contribute to your communities.

A pastor in the U.S. defies a state order and holds a church service with hundreds of people

//On Tuesday night, just before the police arrived, Pastor Tony Spell stood in the pulpit of his Louisiana church and delivered a message to hundreds of worshipers before him and fellow believers around the world.

"I just want to encourage the religious world tonight, Amen!," Spell said in a sing-song voice, building to the crest of his sermon.

"Keep going to church! Keep on worshiping God! ... The church is a hospital for the sick! It's a place of healing for the brokenhearted!"

In holding services for so many followers at his Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge, Spell defied an emergency order by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards banning public or private gatherings with more than 50 people to stop the spread of Covid-19.//

Coronavirus: Social distancing may need to go on for almost 12 months, UK’s scientific advice says

//The UK could face close to a year of social distancing measures to safeguard the NHS’s ability to cope with coronavirus, according to newly published scientific advice to ministers.

Documents made public today show scientists agreed on Monday that the only realistic prospect of controlling the virus and preventing intensive care wards being overwhelmed would be to start an alternating policy of more and less strict rules on social distancing.

According to a consensus statement agreed by the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling, the restrictions will have to last much longer.

It is a panel of experts convened by the Department of Health and Social Care to advise on the UK’s response to a pandemic based on infectious disease modelling and epidemiology.

It was agreed that the addition of both general social distancing and school closures to case isolation, household isolation and social distancing of vulnerable groups would be likely to control the epidemic when kept in place for a long period. [It was] agreed that this strategy should be followed as soon as practical, at least in the first instance.”//

Shopper fined by police for violating "social distancing guidelines" despite shopping by himself

Mr. Yeung, a passer-by who was fined HK$2000 for "violating social distancing rules", tried to get an explanation from the police, to no avail. A policewoman threatened him, yelling at him and telling him to go to court if he felt he was treated unjustly.

Mr. Yeung explained to journalists that he was shopping alone in Mong Kok and was on his way to the bus station back home, when police suddenly cordoned off the street he was in. He was stopped and searched, and issued a HK$2000 fine for "gathering with others in violation of social distancing guidelines". Mr. Yeung showed the police his shopping receipts and explained that he was by himself, but police rejected his argument.

#Interview With District Councillor Cheung Ka Yi on Police Deployment in Plaza Hollywood Shopping Mall

2045 | Diamond Hill

Reporter: Hello, District Councillor Cheung Ka Yi, what brings you to this shopping mall today?

Cheung: I saw online that netizens have called for a "Sing with You" event 7pm tonight here in the Plaza Hollywood shopping mall, so a couple other Councillors from the Wong Tai Sin District and I came to observe the situation and the police's deployment here tonight.

Reporter: What have you observed so far?

Cheung: Local residents have told us that there was a heavy police presence surrounding the shopping mall since this afternoon, like 10 police trucks in one street block. Police in full riot gear were already patrolling the footbridges and the areas around the mall. People started gathering in the mall around 7pm, and at around 7:30pm the police suddenly rushed into the mall -- this mall has 3 floors and they came in through the 2nd floor, announcing that nobody is allowed to gather because of "social distancing guidelines", and demanded everyone to leave. They kept patrolling inside the mall. The situation started off very peacefully, but then a verbal argument began, and a constituent from my district was stopped-and-searched by the police.

Reporter: I see that shoppers are still shopping and dining in the mall. Have the police announced what their next steps would be?

Cheung: We asked the mall's management just now, and there were no plans to shut down, as you can see all shops were open for business, until the police rushed in and shopkeepers started closing their stores. Many of the people are in the mall to shop or to celebrate Mothers' Day with a nice dinner with their families, but they have caused all shops to close and lose business for the rest of the night. I have asked the mall's management, and they said there are no plans to forcibly shut down the whole mall, but in reality it has brought great inconvenience to the residents who are here just to shop and dine. The police claimed that they came in because someone called the police expressing concerns that people in the mall are not being socially distant.

Reporter: Have the mall's security guards or management been able to confirm that somebody actually called the police?

Cheung: I am still trying to understand the situation, but they haven't responded to me yet. We are following up with them to see if this actually happened, but as you know, once the police are inside, there's no way to ask them to leave.

Health Secretary denies new social distancing measure considered politically sensitive dates; refutes commenting on police approval for the city’s annual rally on July 1

Secretary for Food and Health, Sophia Chan Siu-chee announced further relaxation of “social distancing rule” and restrictions in eateries and entertainment premises on Tuesday (June 16), which she claimed an attempt to normalize the city’s social and economic activities.

In the next 14 days from June 19, maximum number of people gathering in public places has been increased to 50 with exemptions also granted for eateries and banquets. For bars and pubs, people allowed for each table has been increased from 4 to 8 persons.

Although Chan reiterated a few times that the new measures do not take political issues into consideration, duration of these new measures do cover several sensitive dates concerning the anti-ELAB movement. For instance, July 1 was one year from protesters entering the Legislative Council, a determined action showing end of rule of law in Hong Kong.

When being asked whether police force will approve rally gatherings for no more than 50 people once these new measures take effect, she denied responding but repeating policy statement.
