Is Australia’s involvement in the South China Sea conflict worth it?

No more warships. More passionate words. Australia appears to be on the path to a deadly confrontation with China in the South China Sea. Is it worth it?

President Xi addressed a crowd of 70,000 in Tiananmen Square on Thursday to kick off the Chinese Communist Party’s centenary celebrations.

It was a momentous occasion, a spectacular event.
He wasn’t in the mood to contradict himself.

Xi emphatically warned that international “bullies” would interfere “with their heads banging their heads against a great wall of steel forged by more than 1.4 billion Chinese.”

Germany Sent Warship to South China Sea in Nearly 20 Years

China has many disputes on the South China Sea Sovereignty with many countries. Germany sent a warship to the South China Sea on Monday (Aug 2), the first such activity in nearly 20 years. The aim is to maintain international stability. They stated that the warship would not enter the 12-mile range from the disputing sovereignty area.

Deutsche Welle said that Germany sent Frigate Bayern for a 6-months voyage, during which it would refill the needs from the ports from the allies. Germany might show their disagreements with the Chinese sovereignty at the South China Sea when the warship bypassed the area, which would affect the China-Germany relation. However, an official from the German Ministry of Defense stated that Frigate Bayern would not enter 12-mile of the disputing area nor the Taiwan Strait.
