Hong Kong Police Force Enter #PolyU; University Claims it did not participate in the Security Taskforce of the Police

0810 | Mr Lam Yat-Fan, Action Commissioner of Police Operations entered PolyU this morning and stated two major objectives for the police operation today: To find any potentially dangerous objects and to search for evidence of the riot.

He mentioned that if any civilians are found, police negotiators and social workers will be available to help them. He emphasized that the main objectives of today is not to arrest civilians, but to assist in their health condition, and that there is no riot police or any undercover officers at PolyU today.

At 8am, Yeung Li-Wei, Vice-president of PolyU, entered the University with firemen to search and handle any dangerous goods found onsite. He said that PolyU did not involve in the operation of the Hong Kong Police Force.

Beijing Condemns Passing the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act

After U.S. President Donald Trump signed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, PRC's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted furiously and expressed strong objection. It claimed that the law has severely interfered HK and China internal affairs and violated the international laws and relations principles, and that passing “the Act” is a sign of US hegemony.

The statement reinstated that HK affairs are solely the internal affairs of China, and that no foreign governments or forces have the right to interfere. They claimed the passing of the Act ignored facts, justice, righteousness, and provided a wrong signal to the radical rioters in HK to continue to breach the law and destroy law and order. Futhermore, they claimed the Act would only make the Chinese people, including HK citizens more united and understand the evilness of US hegemony.

In the end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the US to stop their "schemes" as they are "doomed to fail" and that they would be faced with "firm counter-measures".

On August 31, 2019, riot police barged into the subway trains in Prince Edward station and indiscrimately assaulted passengers and pro-democracy protesters on their way home.

Many civilians were gravely injured, and many others were seen went down on their knees, or begging the police to stop pepper-spraying and hitting them. Known as the 831 Prince Edward Incident, this was one of the most brutal incidents during the Anti-ELAB movement in Hong Kong.

Since then, members of the public voluntarily go to the #PrinceEdward train station on the last day of every month, bringing white flowers to pay tribute to the casualties and the victims of #PoliceBrutality in the pro-democracy movement.

On Nov 28, 2020, it was reported that Hong Kong police will arrest any civilians paying tribute outside the Prince Edward Station starting from Nov 30, 2020.

District Councilor Lam Siu-ben told reporters that since beginning of 2020, police officers often sweep away white flowers as soon as civilians put them down. Other police officers were seen closely monitoring onlookers from nearby Mong Kok Police Station. When a civilian put down a flower, they would immediately be threatened for committing littering.

Lam quoted a source saying the police will tighten enforcement from this month to disperse citizens gathering nearby Prince Edward Station and arrest those refuse to leave.

Lam said that from his observation, “police do not want to see white flowers being placed at Prince Edward station and around the area of Mong Kok Police Station".

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam claimed that Liberal Studies was "problematic from day one". Lam also blamed that "critical thinking" was being taken as "saying no to everything".*

The authorities announced on Nov 25, 2020 a make-over of Liberal Studies in Hong Kong's schools. These include a new curriculum with an emphasis on China and the Basic Law; changing the grading system from a scoring system to a pass/fail assessment; and having the government vet all textbooks that would be used.

In a radio programme, Lam also blamed foreign media for "hurting the image of the SAR": "I don't think foreign media reports are objective and fair, especially those about Hong Kong."

Lam denied that the changes to Liberal Studies is a political move that overrides professionalism. She insisted that the subject has "always been causing controversies" in the past 10 years.

Hong Kong leader says she has “piles of cash at home”, no bank account, due to U.S. sanctions

Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam told HKIBC, an English-language news channel based in Hong Kong, “I have piles of cash at home, the government is paying me cash for salary because I don’t have a bank account.”

She is unable to open account after being targeted by U.S. sanctions. The Treasury Department said the sanctions were a respond to “draconian” national security legislation imposed in Hong Kong.

China has been repeated source of misinformation surrounding the coronavirus and Beijing has previously baselessly accused the United State and Italy for releasing the coronavirus.

The new research contradicts reporting that the virus originated in Wuhan and spread to the rest of the world as the Chinese government suppressed key details about the outbreak.

Wuhan Virus Pandemic broke out in Wuhan last year in late December. The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is approaching 62 million across the world so far.

China has been claiming in recent month that the source of the pandemic may be from the United States, France or even Italy, denying the allegation of 'Wuhan Virus originates in China'. Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences publishes a report through Social Science Research Network (SSRN), indicating that the Wuhan Virus "probably" comes from India and Bangladesh, transmitted from monkeys to human, and discovered in Wuhan after half a year. However, the report has not undergone any peer review and, therefore, cannot be considered as a rigorous academic finding.

Mike Ryan, an Epidemiologists at the WHO, said on 27 November, 2020 that it is "highly speculative" to say the coronavirus not emerged from China. Ryan said at a video meeting in Geneva, "From a public health perspective, it is clear that the Epidemiology investigation should begin at where the human cases first emerged, followed by understanding the cases outbreak and the outbreak process." He added that the WHO had always intended to send researchers to the Wuhan food market to probe the virus origins further.

However, until now, no experts from WHO has been to Wuhan for on-site research. During the mission in July, experts only stayed in Beijing for three weeks. While being asked if any experts would go to Wuhan for the investigation, Director-General of WHO, Tedros, finally confirmed the visit, which would be the first time since the pandemics have started for a year.
