Frontline Wuhan doctor, Ai Fen, silenced by CCP 2/2

People's Republic of China (PRC) magazine “Renwu” (People) published Dr Ai’s interview as their March issue cover story. Ai was the first person who circulated reports about the Wuhan pneumonia (now renamed as COVID-19). However, the 8,000-word cover story article was taken down soon after its publication. Nonetheless, PRC netizens continue to use cryptic ways to circulate the censored article by using emoji icons to replace actual words; and use of ancient Chinese language to recap the story. Circulated on the internet are versions in different languages such as Japanese, Croatian, Italian, English, Korean, and even Morse codes.

(13 Mar) The interview with Ai Fen was deleted shortly after being published and this triggered "online wrestling" between mainland Chinese netizens and internet censorship for consecutive 2 days. First some public wechat accounts forwarded the original article. After the posts were removed again, mainland Chinese netizens started to challenge limits of censorship with variety methods: from Ancient chinese characters Oracle, Carcass, Mao’s style Chinese characters, to Morse code, emoji, QR code, sheet music with music notes, English version, Japanese version, German version, or even Herbrew version etc. Some people even upload the article to blockchain ao that it could never be deleted. According to incomprehensive counting, there are at least 80 versions occured at the moment.

#RTHK deletes shows from internet, Bao Choy: The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting

//The news has led to concern that the bulk of RTHK‘s archival content — which, for years, has been freely accessible on the two platforms — will no longer be viewable, including episodes that reported on Hong Kong’s political turmoil since the 2019 protests, and the national security law....

Since the arrival the new Director of Broadcasting Patrick Li in March, who has no media background but introduced a massive editorial overhaul, ten RTHK television episodes have been censored before they were broadcast. Meanwhile, at least five top executives have resigned or took early retirement amid a staff exodus.

One episode of the documentary programme Hong Kong Connection – which investigated the July 2019 Yuen Long mob attack near an MTR station – would be among the episodes set to be removed from the internet.//

HongKongers Turn to Blockchain to Preserve Protest Archives

LikeCoin, a decentralized publishing infrastructure on the Cosmos blockchain, is being used to preserve media coverage of the 2019 Hong Kong protests.

As Quartz reported, people began backing up key episodes of the city’s current affairs program, Hong Kong Connection, earlier this month. The award-winning show is the property of public broadcaster Radio Television Hong Kong. The broadcaster announced in May that it would erase archive content over a year old; it has increasingly fallen under government influence.

"To say that people in a country must support their own country’s government is not patriotism, but a form of slavery" : Vitalik Buterin

The Russian-Canadian, co-founder of Ethereum #blockchain, #VitalikButerin is best known for his creation of the crypto space, dabbling in #Bitcoin. The 28-year-old is one of the youngest billionaires in #cryptocurrency, possessing a net worth more than $1 billion.

Buterin has been vocal on Russian's all-out invasion in Ukrain since February 24. He railed against Russian president Vladimir Putin and the invasion of Ukraine, condemning it as a "crime against the Ukrainian and Russian people".

In his latest post on Twitter, he called on support first for the Ukrainians and those who are protesting against Putin's rule in Russia and Belarus.

Buterin's Twitter post has attracted many Chinese netizens to choke. One of them, dogecoin faith, said in unreasonable grammar, “Aren’t you Russian? You traitor, did Putin have a bad experience with you? “

Buterin didn't turn a blind eye to this provocation. Instead, he addressed the comment and wrote back in simplified Chinese.

He wrote, "To say that people in a country must support their own country’s government is not patriotism, but a form of slavery.”

Buterin continued, "#TruePatriotism sometimes requires confronting the evil emanating from one’s own country. Because in this way, we can help our country become more beautiful.”
