Arrestees claimed in court they were assaulted by the police —Police Chief Chris Tang Ping Keung: This is nothing new, it happens all the time

[Nov 22] During an arraignment on Nov 21, some arrested persons claimed that the police still beat them after the arrest. However, in a press conference on Nov 22, Chris Tang Ping Keung, the current Hong Kong police chief took this in stride and said it is nothing new. He replied, “It is common to have arrested persons claiming they were attacked by the police, but we have a fair and just system to investigate these issues.”

He emphasized the police had not set any deadline for people staying in the PolyU campus and hoped to settle this issue peacefully. He restated, the police had promised not to immediately arrest citizens under 18, and would treat those over 18 fairly, “using common practice." He said, “You would not want your family, your friends and those who visit you to worry for you.”

The case was classified as "lost government property", and the police claimed that the tablet contained no personal data.

Police reiterated that the force had strict regulations on the storage and usage of equipment. They asked members of the public to call 999 immediately or hand over the items to the nearest police station if the lost items were found.

Police Reportedly Commit Dangerous Driving, Almost Colliding with a Private Car Carrying a Pregnant Woman

On the evening of September 1, 2020, a police vehicle suddenly cut across the double white lines and almost collided with a private car.

Apple Daily contacted the civilian on the private car, Mr. Kwok who was driving at that time and had his pregnant wife as a passenger. Mr. Kwok recounted the incident at 11:55pm on September 1.

When approaching the toll booth, a police car on the manual toll booth driving lane, suddenly cut across the double white lines, jamming into the driving lane right in front of Mr. Kwok's car. It was lucky that he managed to react quickly to avoid a collision, but his pregnant wife was already screaming in shock.

Mr. Kwok accused the police officer in the vehicle of having no sense of safety. He hopes that the Police Force will look into the incident and penalize the officer concerned.

However, the dash camera on Mr. Kwok's car was unable to capture a clear view of the police vehicle’s license plate. This makes it hard to lodge a formal complaint. Nevertheless, Mr. Kwok said, even if he could find out the license number, the Department of Justice might withdraw the charge against the police.
