Protesters at PolyU Refuse Eating, Show Signs of Anxiety, and Lose Speech Ability
(24 Nov) Today is the eighth day that the PolyU holdout protesters are trapped. Two representatives met with the press today. They believed that they have been falsely imprisoned by the police. Some of them are physically and mentally weak and they urged the police to withdraw the siege as soon as possible.
Some social workers and medical professionals who reached out to these trapped protesters said that some of them refused to eat, do not want to meet anyone, and are in constant fear. Some even show signs of anxiety, loss of speech ability and amnesia. They described the situation as causing severe psychological trauma to these protesters and stated that it is an international humanitarian disaster.
The social workers and medical professionals could not accurately assess the number of people who still remain on the campus but estimated that there are about 30 people. "They are all hiding." In regard to the meal arrangement for those who have stayed, they pointed out that "(those who have stayed) are extremely cautious and fearful of the people outside", and most of them no longer wander around the campus. They pointed out that those who stayed have harboured an immense fear of the police and also worried about their personal safety once they leave the campus. They urged the police to withdraw the siege as soon as possible, "otherwise those who are in hiding may never come out".
Today is the District Council Election. They pointed out that this election is a quasi-referendum since the anti-extradition bill protests and urged the public to vote, specifying that protesters who remain trapped on the campus "also want to come out to vote" and exercise their civic rights. The social workers and medical professionals are angry with this situation and believed that the trapped protesters' personal freedom have been confined to the campus.
They called on the PolyU management to be in touch with the citizens and students who are trapped as soon as possible and handle the troubling plight on campus. They criticised Lam Tai Fai, the Chairman of the Board of PolyU, for not paying attention to the "kitchen guy" who stayed at the university and urged the senior management of the school to be more proactive.
In regard to the resources currently on campus, they said that a lot of resources, including water, have been contaminated by the tear gas and long-term consumption would affect the health of the trapped protesters.

Surgical gown recall leaves medical centers scrambling
(31 Jan) Millions of surgical gowns made in China are being recalled because they may not be sterile. Surgeries are now being canceled in some hospitals.
The company said these facilities did not "maintain proper environmental conditions." Problems included gowns exposed to contaminants through open windows, failure to provide hand sanitation, and operators eating in the production area.
In fact in 2018, Cardinal Health had discovered that the supplier used an unregistered factory to produce the products, but after testing the company thought it would not affect the products, so it didn’t report it to the FDA at that time.
Surgical gowns are usually packed with other surgical equipments when shipped, so everything in the package may be contaminated. Cardinal Health said it has stopped working with Siyang HolyMed and will cooperate with the FDA's investigation.
