Police Arrests 2 Hongkongers for Commemorating #LeungKinFai
On the evening of July 1, 2021, Leung Kin-Fai, a Hong Kong man aged 50, stabbed himself to death after injuring a police with a knife outside the SOGO Department Store in Causeway Bay.
In the following days, many citizens went to the site to mourn the deceased. The government, however, claimed that mourning may be treated as "incitement", demanding people not to mourn.
in the midnight of July 9, 2021, the police arrested 2 civilians: a student aged 20 and a property agent aged 27, for "suspected criminal damage".
The police force claimed that one of them wrote "Martyr Leung Kin-Fai, RIP" in public space with a black marker, and the other person paid tribute with fruits and other food offerings. Both are under detention.
After raiding their residences, the police claimed to find posters, books and flags related to "Hong Kong Independence" and the anti-ELAB movement. The police said these materials might havd violated the National Security Law.
The police displayed items like flags and Fai Chun that read "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of Our Times", puzzles and books related to the pro-democracy movement, posters that read "Natioanl Security Law Kills Hong Kong", etc. The police force also collected mobile phones, laptops, and desktops.
