(7 Mar) While the novel coronavirus originated in a level 4 research laboratory in Wuhan, China, the embassies of China are busy shifting blames to other countries. For instance, the Chinese ambassador to Japan tried to call the virus “Japanese coronavirus” and the ambassador to Iran called it “Iranian coronavirus”.

The most ridiculous of all, news report from CCTVB* called it “American novel coronavirus”.

Doubts are dispelled as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo labeled it “Wuhan Virus”, and Dr. David Da-I Ho, the Taiwanese-American doctor and HIV/AIDS researcher who is known for the highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), declared that:
1. China is undoubtedly the origin of COVID-19;
2. The epidemic has been worsened due to the mishandling and blocking of information in China.

*Note: TVB is a television broadcasting company based in Hong Kong. It is now often called CCTVB - China Central TVB due to its bias news report of the protestors.

After the mysterious death of the 15-year-old Chan Yin-lam last October, there have been sayings that the CCTV foootages shown to the public were re-enacted by an actress who looked like Chan.

Just as
TVB, a pro-Beijing channel, had an exclusive interview with Chan's mother who insisted her daughter had killed herself when naked, her distant speech also caused audience to doubt if she is the real mother.

TVB misleading editing on the arrest of Kwong Chun-yu

(11 May)A fellow HongKonger created this forum thread to indicate that the pro-government television broadcasting company in Hong Kong, TVB, reported with the news clip regarding the arrest of Democratic Party legislator Roy Kwong Chun-yu in a way that may lead the audience to associate Mr Kwong with disorderly conduct during a protest.

Over 200 people were arrested in a Mong Kok protest on Mother’s Day (10 May), including Democrat Roy Kwong, who allegedly attack the police.

The protest escalated from singing and chanting slogans in malls in the afternoon to rallying in Mong Kok on Sunday night. Around 10 pm, Kwong was standing in the crowd and negotiating with the police through a speaker when an officer on his right pushed him to the floor and restrained him with the assistance of pepper spray.

The police officer claimed that they arrested Kwong due to the suspicion that he threw a water bottle towards the police force. Even though Kwong’s misconduct has not been confirmed with any evidence, TVB news channel arranged a clip of a water bottle on the ground before broadcasting the scene of Kwong’s arrest, creating a deception that Kwong was related to the act. The forum thread creator urged others to file broadcasting complaints against TVB’s misleading contents on the Communications Authority’s website.

Rumors of actor Alex Mak was ordered by TVB to stop working due to participation of Hong Kong pro-democracy movement

(14 May)Hong Kong police have been accused of abusing its power and conducting indiscriminate arrests during the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong in 2019, also known as the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement.

So far, nearly 8,000 people have been arrested. Of the arrested, one of them is 26-year-old up-and-coming TV actor Hoi Ching (Alex) Mak, according to Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily. He was reportedly arrested at the end of 2019 after participating in one of the protests.

Mak is employed by local pro-establishment TV station TVB. It is said that TVB has stopped all of Mak’s work following the arrest. Mak was not seen in the promotion of a recently aired TVB show, in which he is one of the actors. Mak decided to return to his hometown in France after being suppressed by the company due to his political views.

Mak was one of the favorite actors of TVB’s top management team, headed by Yee Ling (Virginia) Lok and Wing Shan (Sandy) Yue. Following his arrest, Mak’s dense working schedule was quickly cancelled by TVB.

Mak’s colleagues at TVB were surprised by his sudden departure.

There are reports that TVB has issued a gag order to forbid the few people who are familiar with the matter to say much.

Mak was actively posting promo videos and photos relating to the latest TVB show he participated in before his employer took him out of all promotional work. He disappeared from Instagram for around three months.

Recently, Alex posted a selfie on his social media platform. In the photo, he wore sunglasses without expression. The caption was: "Take a break. Take a look."

Online comments from his fans included: "You left TVB?", " Why you been gone so long?"

Hongkongers abandon
TVB, RTHK's Channel 32 popularity surges 22 fold

Editors Note:
TVB, a commercial media corporation founded in 1967, is a traditional local-born television channel, which was popular & well-known by Hongkongers of every walk of life, representing the Hong Kong TV culture, over the decades. However, its management and administration became seriously intertwined with the CCP in recent years, they fabricated news and produced dramas that are pro-CCP and pro-Government, losing its Hong Kong identity and the fundamental truth-finding spirit of journalism.

In the contrary, RTHK is one of the departments under the HKSAR Government, its producers and management stands firm on justice's and Hongkonger's side, maintaining its conscience, professionalism and truthful reporting which educates the public without fear of suppression by the HKSAR Government and the CCP.

Surging popularity of RTHK indirectly reflects that more and more HongKongers are aware of the brutal CCP regime and its tyranny, endangering Hong Kong’s freedom, justice and way of life.

Evident favoritism towards Pro-china Broadcaster in Communications Authority’s Enforcement

The complaint against the RTHK programme, Headliner, a popular satirical show, for "defaming and insulting" Hong Kong Police force was substantiated according to findings from Communications Authority’s investigation.

The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, which oversees the Authority, said no broadcaster should spread hatred and the Bureau chief, Edward Yau Tang-wah, demanded an immediate review and suspension of the programme.

When it comes to controversial programmes produced by pro-china broadcasters, Hong Kong officials responded differently. A 80-min program about the Hong Kong ptotesds, which was produced by the Chinese Central Television (CCTV), was broadcasted in early June on all of the city’s free and paid TV channels, including TVB News & Finance Channel, NOW Finance Channel and Cable TV paid channel.

The program claimed to "analyse the hidden forces" behind the movement, pointing fingers directly at the “pro-independence” politicians and "foreign interference" for "strategizing and inciting the riots".

The US consulate accused the CCTV program as a “blatant fraudulent misrepresentation” and 377 complaints were received as the Communications Authority admitted.

Charles Mok, Panel Chair on Information Technology and Broadcasting of Legislative Council said “the content of the documentary could be tightened”. He urged the Authority to seriously investigate into the matter.

Surprisingly, CEDB stepped back on this incident and responded conservatively by only highlighting formalities and established complaint handling procedures as their defense.

NOW TV chief Cheung Chi-kong will retire in August, former TVB Chinese team head Bill Chan takes his position

NOW TV has been one of the most credible news channels in Hong Kong. Its chief Cheung Chi-kong will retire in August 2020, and retired journalist Bill Chan will take his position. Cheung admitted in his interview with Stand News that he decided to retire before the anti-ELAB movement. He suggested that it is useless to worry if his departure will affect NOW’s credibility.

A NOW TV employee expressed his worry about Cheung’s departure. It still remains a question as to whether Chan’s new position will affect the TV station in any manner.

Another senior journalist from NOW TV suggested that Chan’s arrival was unexpected, because the position should have been given to Annie Cheng, Cheung’s subordinate who has been working with NOW for 15 years. He admitted that he was not confident about the personnel change because it may affect the freedom of press and the journalistic integrity of the NOW TV news team.

The “Evil Law Diary”: How to Destroy a News Department

(19 Jun)Clear skies, night-time in Mongkok, a lot of people queuing outside a small shop as though nothing has happened.

//I rushed back home to watch the last episode of Headliner...The Emperor’s Mother (a character in Headliner mocking Carrie Lam) said “we hope to meet again”, which was a lie. It would have been difficult to say “we will definitely come back" as it is highly uncertain.

//The world of media is wailing today.

//the show is in a dire situation and there is no specified date to meet again. Even if it does come back one day, it will for sure be under a harmonious but intolerable veneer. Perhaps, the personnel at Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will be completely different by then.

//Today was the 25th anniversary of the Apple Daily Newspaper. A special edition was issued. Editors understood that their boss, Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, is now a prime target of the power elites/gangsters. They celebrated the 25th anniversary because they cannot see a 30th anniversary celebration at this point. Someone proposed "The End of Apple Daily" as the title of the special edition. In the end, it was entitled "Not the End of Apple Daily". There is no reason to surrender. They will treat every day like it is the final one and persist.

//a retiree and former executive at TVB will be the new boss of the Now TV news department and he will bring in a team from CCTVB.

//What does an untrustworthy government which likes to lie and deceive its citizens hate the most? A credible news media for sure.

//how do you destroy a news department? The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is good at this - by replacing management, manipulating an organization’s structure through personnel changes, setting new targets, and controlling daily operations

//it is natural selection; survival of those who are obedient; an elimination of the capable ones so that the inferior will survive.

According to Yuen Long District Councillor Sammy Cheung, he arrived at Pok Oi hospital after a pro-China white-clad group had allegedly attacked civilians in Long Ping on June 28.

TVB news crewapproached the victims coming out of the hospital for interview. Even after the person agreed to be interviewed on the terms that their face won't be shown, the TVB news crew allegedly set up secret cameras to record their faces.

Cheung then went forward to stop the crew. They responded, "we're just trying to record the side profiles of the kids".

Afterwards, Cheung and his team retold the incident on their Facebook page, urging citizens to beware of TVB news.

The political purge in every business is also a chance for the rise of the alternative economy. Keep going!

Summon the dead to identify protester's mother

(27 Jun) At the end of September last year, a naked corpse of a 15-year old female were awkwardly floating in the ocean. The Hong Kong police declared no foul play suspected and the body was cremated and left no remnants to investigate. The Hong Kong Coroner's Court recently did a pre-inquest review on the case.

The deceased was Chan Yin-lam, a competitive swimmer. Whether it was a "suicide" or if she "was suicided" remains an issue rife with suspicions and doubts. Someone's daughter had gone missing. Tsz-ming, one of the people in her search team, learned that the news of her death came out during the hustle and bustle. Overnight, he lost contact with both Chan's mother and her maternal uncle. The two family members vanished without a trace...

Chan had participated in anti-extradition law amendment bill (anti-ELAB) activities many times. A lovely young girl was inexplicably reduced to ash. Afterwards, many young people from the protests disappeared, some suspect they were extradited to mainland China, killed or suicided. They became trapeze artists (that shed no blood when landing) and floating corpses in the ocean. The atrocities of public security and evil cops were covered up and indulged, so will they simply remain unpunished? To appease the mob, TVB news director set out to interview Chan's mother; her blurred out face could not have been any faker. Later, some scoundrel of [Confucian] propriety, righteousness, integrity and politics* wrote an open letter "on behalf of" Chan's mother. It came with no photo, no signature and no authorisation; no one in Hong Kong believed it. For the entirety of the court date, police officers surrounded and escorted her... Netizens examined old photos of Chan's mother, suspected photos of the deceased and the more recent images from her [mother's] court appearance. They made comparisons of her [Chan's] brow ridges, the birthmark on her neck, the part in her hair and the puffiness in her eyes. This "grand charade" could not end even if it wanted to. So this place does not have 300 taels?+ Who knows what is true or false? Display ID? Compare names? DNA testing? Which department is trustworthy?

This is why the best way to seek redress is by summoning the dead in a public trial just like the Hello Kitty murder case++ when the courtroom's halogen lights kept flashing and the victim's half-cooked head aired her own grievances. Only if [Chan's] departed soul cries out "Mom!" in the courtroom will we believe it.

Editor's Note:
* 禮義廉政 is a play on words of the proper phrase, 禮義廉恥, meaning propriety, righteousness, integrity and honour. This article replaced honour (恥) with politics (政).
+ This place does not have 300 taels is a Chinese idiom akin to one of Aesop's Fables. It refers to someone who believes that they are clever, but their attempt to cover something up only makes the situation more obvious.
++ The Hello Kitty murder case refers to the kidnapping, torture and death of night club hostess in 1999. The convicts boiled her head to hide evidence of the crime.
