Register to vote. Election of CE and Legco members by universal suffrage not a dream

Earlier, we called for a joint declaration. More than 100,000 professionals and organisations took part and urged the Hong Kong government to respect professional advice and close the border completely to protect the community. As a result of the subsequent efforts by various parties in pushing and advocating for actions, the government, despite slow in responding, finally accepted the professional advice and responded to public demands by proposing limited border closure and a series of measures to control the spreading of the epidemic.

Facing the current situation in Hong Kong, professional organisations and people from all walks of life should unite to maximise their influence on society as well as to put forward rational policy proposals, plans for action and ideas which should be embraced by society, discussed among the public and eventually put into action.

To achieve the above vision, what is most needed at present is solidarity and unity of different parties. We hereby make the following appeals:

1) Encourage everyone to uplift the spirit of the Anti-Extradition Law Amendment Bill Movement last year. In addition, building on the wins in the 2019 district council election, encourage Hong Kong citizens to register as voters. This is not only for the Legislative Council election, but also the Chief Executive election in 2022.

2) Encourage voters to learn more about the 2020 Legislative Council election and the 2021 Chief Executive Election Committee election. Understand the vote(s) in your hand. You can cast one vote in the Geographical Constituency and you may have another vote in the Functional Constituency. Find out if you can register to vote in any functional constituencies. This can change the voter demographics and lead to the successful election of your ideal candidates.

3) Encourage voters in functional constituencies to actively participate in electing functional constituency councilors to the Legislative Council. Elect a representative of your functional constituency into the Legislative Council who can truly monitor the government and drive for an early realisation of electing the Chief Executive and Legislative Council members by universal suffrage.

4) Urge everyone to encourage their friends, family members and colleagues to register as a functional constituency elector in the next two months. You can also form trade unions to enhance the professional status of your industry and promote cross-industry labor benefits. In addition, register as an elector in the Labour functional constituency.

5) Call on District Councilors to assist voters to verify their voter status, to promote election education in the community, to inform the public how to wisely use their votes, and to assist anyone in need of help to register.
