The First Death Anniversary of 22-year-old Pro-Democracy University Student

One year ago at 8:09pm on November 8, Chow Tsz-lok, a student of University of Science & Technology died of severe brain injury after days of intensive medical treatment following a 4-meter fall in a car park, allegedly caused by police brutality. He was only 22 years old.

Since then, supporters of the anti-ELAB movement gather in mourning every month at Sheung-tak carpark, where Chow fell during a police dispersal operation.

The Coroner's Court will hold an inquest on November 16 for his death; it is estimated to last five weeks. The court has summoned over 60 witnesses to the hearing.

One Year Since the Passing of Pro-democracy Student Alex Chow

On November 4, 2019 in Tseung Kwang O, Alex Chow Tsz-lok, a 22-year-old pro-democracy university student, fell from the third floor of Sheung Tak Carpark during a police operation.

On November 8, 2019, Chow passed away in a hospital at 8:09am. The cause of Chow's fatal fall remains unknown.

The coroner's court is scheduled to be held for 5 weeks, beginning on November 16, 2020. The court is expected to summon 60 witnesses (including 20 police officers, firemen, paramedics, voluntary first aiders and medical doctors) and analysts.

Since the passing of Chow, Hongkongers mourned Chow on the 8th day of every month across Hong Kong, despite police intervention. Today, on the one-year mark of Chow's death, netizens called for a memorial at Tseung Kwang O at 1930.

Armed police officers have been deployed in the area.

"Sing Hallelujah": Citizen Plays Hymn for Deceased Alex Chow

A young man was seen playing "Sing Hallelujah to the Lord" on recorder near the memorial for Alex Chow on the one-year mark of his death.

The hymn was popularized at the Anti-ELAB protests last June, when pro-demicracy protesters sang the song at the frontlines in an attempt to keep both sides from violent clashes.

Granny Wong Mourns the Death of Pro-democracy Student

Granny Wong is known for waving the British Hong Kong flag at the frontline of pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. She had been arrested by Chinese police in August 2019. In the past year, she was jailed and then grounded in Shenzhen afterwards. Granny Wong made her way to Hong Kong in October 2020 and revealed what had happened during her disappearance.
