At Victoria Park, hundreds defied police objection and public gathering ban to join the Candlelight Vigil. The atmosphere is peaceful, with participants sitting on the ground, holding posters and chanting slogans such as “Down with CPC!”

At 20:09, the citizens stood a minute's silence to commemorate the young souls died during the June Fourth Massacre.

Police Interference in Peaceful Assembly, Citizens: "One nation, one Hong Kong”

More citizens flooded into the park, filling the largest public park of Hong Kong with mourners for the June Fourth Movement. During the assembly, police seized the central broadcasting system and started to play recordings, warning the citizens that they may be in breach of the prohibition of public gathering under the Covid-19 pandemic. The citizens, unafraid, started to sang the protest anthem “Glory to Hong Kong” and chanted the new slogans “one nation, one Hong Kong”, advocating for self-determination in Hong Kong affairs.

18-year-old student: I will come out even it means breaking the law

In Kwun Tong, around 100 people held a June Forth Vigil at the Kwun Tong Promenade.

A 18-year-old boy joined the vigil for the second time. He stated that he learnt more about the massacre last year, and he decided to join the vigil.

Regarding the ban of June Forth Vigil this year, he agreed that Hongkongers’ freedom was being exploited. “Hong Kong is the last place to remember this incident. The government is inhumane to ban it,” he said. He stressed that he will stand strong even if the government decides to persecute him.

Two 19-year-old girls Ms. Yuen and Ms. Sze-to went to the June Forth Vigil together. They suggested that the recent protests were similar to the June Forth incident, making them more determined to join the vigil tonight.

They were not scared of the police dispensing the public with violence, because “it will happen anyway”.

They chose the poster that says “Heaven destroy the CCP” for their photo, because they felt that it conveyed what they wanted the most.

"Lennon Way" in Mei Foo shows Protests and Oppression under CPC Regime

Commemorations for the June Forth Massacre were held across the city. In Mei Foo, different forms of street art was set up. Beautiful posters paved a “Lennon Way” for all passersby to look on, while a black umbrella, on which written the lyrics of the protest anthem “Glory to Hong Kong” in calligraphy. An artist set up an artwork, displaying the human right atrocities committed under the CPC governance, represented by the tank with the words “brainwash”, “tamper history”. It includes the 709 Crackdown, a nationwide crackdown on right-defense lawyers and human right activists in China, the untold deaths under the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as many others.
