On April 16 afternoon, "Long Hair" Leung Kwok-hung protested outside the PRC's Hong Kong Liaison Office in Sai Wan with other members of the League Of Social Democrats. The group condemned Beijing for intervening in Hong Kong affairs, including the operation of the Legislature.
An elderly man suddenly stabbed Leung in the abdomen with a rusty pointy weapon. Leung was then transported to the hospital with an ambulance. The assailant was arrested at the scene and he said to the police on the way to the police car, "I am here to help you."

It is all about the party committee system. The Liaison Office is NOT a government department. It is actually the “Hong Kong and Macau Work Committee of the Chinese Communist Party” (CCP). In other words, it is the CPP branch in Hong Kong. It has operated in Hong Kong since the 1920s, called “Xinhua Hong Kong” after 1949 and re-named as Liaison Office in 2000. The Liaison Office has intervened Hong Kong's autonomy as a “second government team” (a term coined by Cao Erbao); now it declares that it is standing above the Basic Law, trying to formally establish a “party-lead-all” committee system that the in Hong Kong.
When the US is about to release its certification report, China takes this move aiming to test the resolve of Washington. If the US fails to respond forcefully, the “Hong Kong Human Rights & Democracy Act” will become nothing more than just a piece of paper and Hong Kong will be transformed from “West Berlin” to “East Berlin”.

Esquel Group
Ms Teresa Yang, the vice chairman of the group and chairlady of HKRITA claims that she ‘does not’ have any conflicts of interests because she obtains approval from ITB before purchasing the gauze attachment fabric for the CuMasks from Esquel Group and that she had disclosed her conflicts of interests with the board of directors. Esquel Group will charge the raw materials for the production of CuMasks at cost. Estimated amount is $3.8 million for 450,000 yards of fabrics.
Esquel group was formed by Shanghai textile merchant Yang Yuanlong in 1978. Their production facilities are in Mainland China, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. The current chairman is Marjorie Yang. Yang nominated Ms Carrie Lam-Cheng to run for Chief Executive Election in 2017. He was appointed to the Chief Executive’s Council of Advisers on Innovation and Strategic Development in the following year. Teresa Yang is the sister of Majorie Yang and current holding dual executive directorship positions at HKRITA and Esquel Group. She is also a member of the Committee on professional developments of teachers and principals under the Education Bureau.
Action Medical Sundries Ltd (ACM)
ACM has factories in Shenzhen and Nanchang. It specialises in manufacturing of SS non-woven fabric, SMS non-woven fabric, melt-blown non-woven fabric, and laminated non-woven fabric (under the entity National Bridge Industrial Holdings Ltd in China.) In a nutshell, ACM specialises in manufacturing of non-woven fabrics for hospital uniforms, shopping bags, disposable PE gloves and bed sheets. According to the website of HK Trade Development Sourcing page (Chinese), the managing director of Action Medical Sundries Ltd is Yang Ziran.
Further research conducted by HKCnews revealed that another company of the same group had enlisted twice among the twenty government-subsidised production lines for local made masks under the Anti-Epidemic Fund (that involves $30 billion public funding). ACM received two grants for the respective amounts of $3million and $2 million previously.
ACM is a subsidiary of PRC based National Bridge Holdings Ltd founded in 1985. Yang is the group chairman. Apart from this, Yang also holds multiple executive leadership positions at numerous Fujian associations of societies in HK including HK Fujian Association of Societies (director), Hong Kong Fujian Charitable Education Fund (Honourable Chairman). Fujian is Xi Jin Ping’s major powerbase in China. In additional to be part of Xi’s group, Yang is also part of the Liaison Office’s close linked interests group via the current Secretary of the PRC Liaison Office Luo Huining through his membership of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Qinghai Province (the power base of Luo) and Qinghai Province related positions including Qinghai Hong Kong and Macau Association (Vice-chairman).

Beijing and Pro-Beijing Camp Denounce Democractic Primaries in Hong Kong
Over 600,000 people participated in the primary election coordinated by legal scholar Benny Tai and former legislator Au Nok-hin and executed by the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute on 11 and 12 July.
Tai was motivated by the turnout and projected that the opposition could end up winning 45 seats or more. In the preliminary results released, young pro-democracy activists had in general attracted more votes than veteran democrats.
The final results, including votes from over 20,000 paper ballots, will be released on July 14.
However, the Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, warned on July 13 that the primary polls could amount to "an act of subversion" under the new national security law. Lam claimed the primaries had an "objective of objecting to (and) resisting every policy initiative of the Hong Kong SAR Government" and so "it may fall into the category of subverting the state power, which is now one of the four types of offences under the new national security law."
Around midnight on July 14, China state media Xinhua News Agency condemned the primary election as "illegal," "foreign interference," and a "destruction to electoral practice". PRC's Liaison Office in Hong Kong condemned Tai for "manipulating the election" and accused him of the intent to "seize power".
Earlier, the government's Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau released a statement, claiming that the authorities had received complaints that the pan-democratic weekend primaries "may have allegedly interfered with and manipulated" the elections.
A Bureau spokesman added that "the format, procedure and results of the so-called 'primaries' held by the pro-democratic camp" will not be "recognised nor approved".
Benny Tai reiterated that the government's statement was not reflecting the reality. The organization of the primaries did not involve any call for action. Whether to supoort or object the Financial Budget is a right enjoyed by the councillor. Tai said there is nothing breaching the law.
Tai also cited ordinance no. 22 and pointed out that objecting the financial budget in Hong Kong has nothing to do with subverting the Central Government. Tai did not see why the authorities insisted an expression of public opinion has something "illegal".

Six years ago, it was revealed that a new newspaper titled Hong Kong Morning News was preparing to operate on Mainland Chinese funds but the plan eventually fell through. Its alleged secret sponsor Kuai Zheyuan, who had previously published political commentaries, disappeared shortly after. On 20 July, news emerged of Kuai's arrest in Mainland China in 2014. Sources show that he filed an appeal with High People’s Court of Guangdong Province in 2016 on grounds that included "service to the country with a special impact on the United Front" but was rejected.
Baidu's current information on Kuai describes him as a "professor" and adorns him with titles like "Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Development Strategy Research Centre" and "Executive Vice Chairperson of the International Institute for Strategic Studies". Of course, Baidu also provides a disclaimer that "anyone may edit the contents".
China Judgments Online announced the Second Hearing of Kuai Zhe's Crime of Contract Fraud and Fraud in August 2017. [The document] stated that Kuai, whose real name is Kuai Zhe, was born in 1968. He was involved in falsifying vehicle inspections in 2000. He also registered a private limited company using fraudulent capital and signed a collaborative deal with the Beijing Economic-Technological Investment & Development Corp. to swindle it out of CNY 6.8 million.
In 2010, Kuai told a certain Mr Yu, the Chairman of the board of directors for Grand Cosmos Holdings, that he was the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Research Centre [sic] for the Hong Kong Liaison Office. He claimed to have close ties with leaders in the Supreme People's Court and the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China, which could allow Yu to win two lawsuits. Later, Kuai scammed CNY 2 million from Yu under the pretence of needing funds to facilitate relations.
On 29 April 2014, Kuai was arrested and placed under criminal detention. On 5 June of the same year, he was formally arrested. He was sentenced to 20 years of fixed-term imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of CNY 880,000 (approximately HK 970,000).
Afterwards, Kuai appealed to the High People's Court of Guangdong Province. In the "Penal Notice of Kuai Zhe" announced in November 2017, he requested that the court pronounce him not guilty on grounds of factual errors and procedural violations in the case. He also claimed to be serving the country with a special impact on the United Front. The court rejected his appeal.
Proclaiming himself to be the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Development Strategy Research Centre on his Weibo account, Kuai had published several political commentaries before his arrest. One such exposition titled "The alliance of 'two independences' is a dead-end" was published in Ta Kung Pao in 2013. It criticised advocates of Hong Kong independence for being the "dregs of the Chinese nation, to be condemned by history" and "destined for failure".

In the "Penal Notice of Kuai Zhe" announced in November 2017, he requested that the court pronounce him not guilty on grounds of factual errors and procedural violations in the case. He also claimed to be serving the country with a special impact on the United Front. The court rejected his appeal.
Proclaiming himself to be the Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Development Strategy Research Centre on his Weibo account, Kuai had published several political commentaries before his arrest. One such exposition titled "The alliance of 'two independences' is a dead-end" was published in Ta Kung Pao in 2013. It criticised advocates of Hong Kong independence for being the "dregs of the Chinese nation, to be condemned by history" and "destined for failure".
