Merkel: Will keep addressing concerns over Beijing's treatment of One Country Two Systems
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, criticized China of horrible treatment of minorities in China and showed grave concerns on the suppression of Hong Kong dissidents.
Merkel addressed the Bundesrat, the German Parliament, ahead of the EU special summit which China's human rights appear as a top agenda item. The German leader believes China has repeatedly undermined the One Country Two Systems principle. In future dialogue with China, Germany will clearly express concerns over human rights issues and Hong Kong's situation.
Merkel added that there is currently no significant progress on investment negotiations between China and EU. She reiterated that the EU hopes to establish fair trade with China over reciprocity and market access, and aims to make progress by end of the year.

Another #Video Showing the Destruction of #HKU Lennon Wall by Pro-China Supporters
The Lennon Wall at the University of Hong Kong was destroyed by 30 people on 26 September, 2020.
In the clip, we can see HKU security guards asking those people to leave and said, “Can you please go now? Thanks! Thanks! Please!”.
The attackers replied with “We are Hongkongers, y’all are rubbish and cockroaches!”, “We love our country. Hong Kong people cleaning Hong Kong, clearing out the rubbish!”. The guards then replied, “Thanks it’s ok!” while giving them a thumbs up.
The university management still hasn’t responded to the issue.

Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR has been running for three months since the #NationalSecurityLaw was implemented in Hong Kong. The Committee was responsible for analysing how Hong Kong can be involved in protecting China’s national security and devise related work plans. Committee members include Chief Executive Carrie Lam, Director of the Chief Executive's Office Chan Kwok-ki, Secretary for Security John Lee and Commissioner of Police Chris Tang. Director of Beijing's Liaison Office in Hong Kong Luo Huining was appointed as the National Security Adviser.
So far, the Committee only published three press releases since its establishment. When enquired, the government suggested that the “work of the Committee should not be shared with the public” and refused to respond to any question related to the committee.

Social Worker Released Due to Unsubstantial Evidence After Charge of Riotting
"Battlefield Social Worker" member and social worker Jackie Chen Hung-sau's case was heard on 28 Sep, 2020. Chen, along with several more defendants, were all accused of participating in a 'riot' on 31 Aug 2019.
The prosecutor had submitted all the evidences, and the defense suggested that the evidence was unsubstantial. Judge Sham Siu-man ruled that Chen was not guilty and she was released while the other defendants were guilty.
Chen was surprised by the result and she felt conflicted because her allies were still facing the hearing. She said they should not “celebrate” this case, as many people were still under prosecution process.

Flight of Hong Kong protesters piles pressure on Taiwan
This year, coronavirus-related travel restrictions and Hong Kong’s new security law have narrowed the protesters’ options to leave Hong Kong and sharply reduced the numbers fleeing to Taiwan to only a few dozen. The most desperate are taking their chances by sea.
Hong Kong has so far charged over 600 people with rioting, which carries up to a 10-year jail term.
While Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen pledged assistance to people arriving from Hong Kong, including setting up an office to help with employment, living allowances and counselling, the Taiwan government has repeatedly said that anyone who enters the country must do so legally.
In fact, Taiwan does not want to be accused of helping those whom Beijing calls 'violent criminals'. They also fear Chinese military threats against the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands.

Flight of Hong Kong protesters piles pressure on Taiwan
For some Hong Kong protesters, stripped of their passports and facing criminal charges, a perilous 600 km sea journey to Taiwan is their only hope of escape. For Taiwan, which has promised assistance to the people of Hong Kong but is wary of antagonising…
