Hongkongers Call On International Open Societies to Stop China from Eroding Values of the Free World

19:13 | #IFC, Central
In today's "Sing With You" event, gathering citizens emphasized their opposition to Beijing's unilateral imposition of the National Security Law.

After Hongkongers returned to the street to protest on 24 May, China and the Hong Kong goverment still insisted on the enforcement of the draconian measures which are not only breaching the Sino British Joint Declaration, but also expected to destroy the remaining rights and freedom in the city.

The activity was originally planned to take place in Pacific Place, Admiralty. After the change of venue, the crowd continues to gather.

"See you on 27 May!": Citizens Call For Rally Against Beijing's Takeover

Participating citizens chanted slogans decrying of Beijing's breach of the "One Country Two Systems" policy and the Chinese Communist Party's broken promise of "unchanging for 50 years" in Hong Kong.

"Hong Kong independence is the only way out" sounded loudly in the shopping mall. Citizens also used posters to display the date "527" on the floor, reminding fellow Hongkongers to gather on May 27 and stand up against injustice and oppression together.

Beijing's plan is to bypass Hong Kong's legislature and insert their version of the Anti-Security Law into Hong Kong's constitution. The plan is expected to be approved in Beijing on May 28.

Robert O'Brien, the White House National Security advisor described on May 24 that the National Security Law is China's "take over" of Hong Kong.

False Alarm of Police Arrival Alerts Protesters

1947 | IFC, Central
In defiance against the National Security Law, netizens staged a “Shop with you” protest in IFC shopping centre. There was a period of nervousness owing to news of police arrival, which was later found to be a false alarm. The citizens continued to sing the protest anthem “Glory to Hong Kong” and chanted slogans, including “Down with CPC”, in opposition of heightened control of Beijing in Hong Kong affairs.

Some citizens displayed old newspapers about human right atrocities committed by the CPC and the Hong Kong police, including news about the Tiananmen Massacre. Others waved flags and displayed posters, one written “Please help to protect Hong Kong.” The number “527” appeared in both cases, a reminder to citizens to join the 5.27 General March against the National Security Law.
