Furious Shoppers Demand Government Involvement in Stable Mask Supply; Police Says No Free Masks for Citizens
As the Wuhan pneumonia continues to spread around the globe, locals have been stocking up filter masks and disinfecting items for protection against the virus. This has resulted in a shortage in mask supplies. Upon knowing that stocks of filter masks have been replenished at various Watson’s branches, a long line appeared early this morning (January 30) in Tseung Kwan O Plaza, waiting for the shop to open. However, the supply was limited, and a large number of shoppers actually left empty-handed.
Unexpectedly, the disappointed shoppers showed great understanding towards the situation. Instead, they furiously denounced the HKSAR government and their incompetence in stepping in to help stabilize supply of filter masks. They considered this a basic step that any responsible government should take during an outbreak of such scale. Shoppers also suggested for the government to distribute free masks to all HKID holders.
Much to the disappointment of general public, the Hong Kong Police Force issued a press release today (January 30), clarifying that the force will not distribute free masks to local citizens, and the government also will not dispatch any free face masks to the families of the police force. The force condemned rumour-mongers, claiming that these news are spread with malicious intent. They also claimed that they are determine to work with the community to fight the spread of the Wuhan Pneumonia.
