Reliable sources indicated that no one was arrested at podium area. Although police have withdrawn and returned to the police stations, police vehicles were still sighted on the roads nearby the podium.

Fearing that the police may return and assault in the middle of the night, some residents decided to stay and guard the entrance.

Reporters, first-aiders and pro-democracy lawmaker Alvin Yeung also stayed behind at podium area to stand guard.

Protests, Strikes, Home-made Bombs: Hong Kong-China Border Remains Open

On Feb 2, the first death outside of China was reported in the Philippines. In Hong Kong, the 15th case of the Wuhan pneumonia was confirmed: The patient was a 72-year-old woman whose son had also caught the disease earlier.

As many countries issued ban on Chinese and those who had travelled to China, an increasing number of airlines also cancelled flights to and from China; however, the Hong Kong-China border remains open.

In addition to the inadequate supply of masks and protective gears, the Hong Kong Government's refusal to close the border with China had stirred up much discontent among the citizens. Worse still, the government not only continued to set up quarantine centers in residential areas without consulting the public; but it also ignored citizens' demand to deploy unused hospital and the People's Liberation Army garrison base as quarantine centers.

For consecutive two days, Mei Foo residents have been protesting against the installation of an isolation camp in a heritage site. A union representing public hospital medical workers has approved strike starting from Feb 3 and this would be Hong Kong's first strike undertaken by medical personnels in history.

On the same day, even the fourth home-made bomb was found in Lo Wu, one of the most frequently used ports between Hong Kong and China. A message demanding the government to shut down the border to stop the new coronavirus from spreading to Hong Kong was later on released on the internet.

As of Feb 2, the new coronavirus emerging from Wuhan, China has reportedly infected over 14,500 people across China and reached 24 nations worldwide.

Public shows support to medical staff's plan to go on strike

Uncle Chan of Ma Shi Po, who has confronted with landlords and government for more than 2 decades, distributed white ribbon on Saturday (February 1) at the New Town Plaza in Shatin, called on citizens to support medical staff's plan to go strike next Monday. Chan said that the life of medical staff should not be used as a shield for the government's dereliction of duty. It was hopeful that the strike could assert pressure on the government to implement a full border lockdown with mainland China.

Chen pointed out that the government is unscrupulous and "untrustworthy". Hong Kong people must unite on their own. He also questioned Bureau Head, Sophia Chan’s failure to tackle the shortage of face mask, disregarding health and safety of local population.

In agitation, Chan lamented that citizens in Hong Kong cannot resign to their doom. He repeatedly accused senior government officials of being "mediocre" and paying just lip service to local citizens. He dared senior officials to work with doctors and medical staff in the frontline to cope with the epidemics.

Citizens Violently Beaten by Police, Pool of Blood was Left on Spot

Participants of the rally in Mei Foo were beaten by plainclothes officers on Feb 2. Those injured were treated by volunteer first aiders, and a pool of blood and bandages could be seen on spot afterwards. The jelly-like substance in the pool of blood was suspected to be brain tissue, but was most likely coagulated blood.

Pro-Democracy and Pro-Beijing Newspapers Unite Against Government's Apathetic Stance

Apple Daily and Oriental Daily are known to be direct competitors of each other in the journalism industry of Hong Kong. Both of these newspapers report news often in a tabloid-like manner, with Apple Daily taking a pro-democracy stance, and Oriental Daily take a pro-Beijing stance. Despite their bitter rivalry and difference in political stance, which has intensified owing to the now 8-month-movement, both castigated the government for taking an apathetic stance towards this potential health crisis and epidemic, and Carrie Lam's refusal to close all ports connected to China. They even used the exact wordings to describe the inaction of the government.

In face of an apathetic and ruthless government, even sworn enemies can become allies. Perhaps Lam will be ultimate uniting force in healing the rift and bridging the chasm between different groups in societies.

If my friend who works in the medical field go on a strike Pazu

(31 Jan) HK government paid hundred million for police gear, water cannon vehicle, armoured vehicle, long-range acoustic device (LRAD) to support the police force and their brutality, like throwing money into the sea. They were not reluctant to pay hundreds and millions of dollars for their overtime.

What sort of patients are we admitted to our hospital wards? Some were hiding the truth, and some ran away. They have obviously been to Hubei, but they did not tell. They knew they might be infected, but they remained silent. The sick ones are selfish and do not want to be quarantined. They preferred to spread the virus everywhere, spread the virus to doctors, nurses, staff in the hospital and other patients in the same hospital ward. Finally, the virus will be spread to all citizens in Hong Kong. The HK government doesn’t care.

American Airlines (AAL) canceled all flights to China as well as to Hong Kong

American Airlines (AAL), which canceled all flights to mainland China starting on Jan 31, confirmed on Feb 1 that it had also scrubbed flights to Hong Kong from Feb 3 onwards.

The largest carrier in the US said in a statement that they "will make decisions about Hong Kong flights each day based on our operational situation."

Its pilots' union had taken issue with Hong Kong's proximity to China and potentially to the virus. "While Hong Kong is a special administrative region, this virus does not recognize such a geopolitical wording," said Captain Dennis Tajer, spokesperson for the Allied Pilots Association, which represents 15,000 American Airlines pilots. "Just look at the map. Hong Kong geographically is a landmass that's part of China. The geopolitical issues, which we obviously respect, the virus doesn't."

Pregnant mother cannot afford treatment, costing her life and her child’s
as no hospital is willing to take in expectant mother in Wuhan infected with nCoV:

Summary: CCP's total cordon policy for Wuhan and Hubei Province has brought many tragic cases of unnecessary deaths because hospitals there that are exhausted of means and resources do not take in even unconfirmed cases of the coronavirus. This leaves the most vulnerable sectors of the society: the elderly, the existing sick and the pregnant women at very high risks. A tragedy happened at Huanggong, a city near Wuhan, where a pregnant woman and her unborn child were given up to die because her stressed husband cannot raise further money to find willing medical facilities to perform initial tests to check what was the nature of her disease.

(Editorial note: CCP's radical policy triggers off pan-societal fear and stigmatisation against any person who has any 'suspicious' or suspicious symptoms for initial testing and hospital take-in. Hospitals' bureaucratic passing the bucket add to the misery. The result is people are left to be died by themselves because they are deprived of the access to the public hygiene system. )

It has been over a week since Wuhan has been cordoned off. Many people in Wuhan are desperate to seek outside help, including an expectant mother who suspects she may have been infected with the nCoV.

Ms Gong, 39 weeks pregnant, says “We called the hospitals specialise in treating patients with fever, but they all said they don’t take in pregnant women with fever anymore.”

The local maternal and child care service centres pushed back pregnant women by telling them to the obstetrics specialise hospitals for delivery. If they have fever, they should go to 'other hospitals' that take in patients that treat "fever only" and "nothing else". Yet many hospitals at Wuhan refuses to take in pregnant women with nCoV patients or suspicious cases or not even diagnosed cases as long as the hospitals staff think that people having similar symptoms of the nCov, such as fever.

Even expectant mothers are struggling to have hospital beds, let alone ordinary citizens. For example, a family of three caught the nCoV have to self-quarantine at home where they do not medical supplies and medication. A patient says that hospitals often pass the buckets of taking in patients to each other, leaving patients have to go around to find suitable places for treatments. This often worsen the patients' conditions.
The National Healthcare Security Administration claims that they will ensure nCoV patients will not be denied of treatment because they are unable to afford the cost. At present, the most difficult part is even to find places for proper testing and diagnosis. At Huanggang, a city near Wuhan, a 31 year-old pregnant woman passed away today because obstetric test strips for preliminary test is not available. Her husband said that he had tried his best to save his wife by borrowing more than $200000 Yuan. However, he was forced to give up on further seek of medical treatment because he cannot raise more money. In the end, that cost the lives of his wife and their unborn child. The deceased woman died without even having any actual accurate dialogises of the cause of death. The authority just vaguely put down 'causes' of death as 'severe pneumonia' and 'failure of breath' on the paper.

China Officials indication of larger number of dead from the Wuhan Coronavirus, than its announcement

Editor’s Note: Netizens challenged that the number of deaths in Wuhan was just 85 (till 28 January 2020) according to the government’s report, accumulative since the first case of death. If this was the true figure, it definitely didn’t need both the city and provincial governments to provide logistic reinforcement for conveying the remains with Coronavirus. The funeral cars fleet must be in a large scale so as deployed at provincial government level. This first Weibo announcement indicated the real situation happening in Wuhan. Having identified the “indication”, the government removed the relevant contents from the same post, to facilitate the social stabilizing work which was the top priority in China. However, the Netizens opined that nowadays everyone in China was aware that all the announcements by the Communist Party were fake, so as to achieve social stabilizing objective and thus the government was not trustworthy. The quick deletion of the true contents even showed that the quality of the government was much more lower in standard, than they expected.

Summary Screenshot attached:
On 28 Jan at 13:06 the Wuhan Official announced in Weibo that all the charges would be waived for the cremation and related services for those new Coronavirus infected patients who had passed away (including suspected cases). This would be effective on 26 January. Meanwhile, the Wuhan Command Office and Hubei Civil Affairs Department would provide solid supports for conveying those dead patients by deploying batches of funeral cars, workers and protection gears.

After a very short period of time, the same post was edited (circled in red) by deleting the above underlined (right screen) which was about deploying batches of funeral cars, workers and protection gears.

The screenshot showed a “strike back” of the government’s official Facebook page. The statistics being accused as “passing off the fish eyes as pearls” by the government officials came from a friend of mine, Dr. Leung Kai Chi. He has responded to the accusation; I would like to add a few more points hereby. How should we interpret the message written by this Facebook page, which played as a governmental declaration, on how they have played a game on shifting of meaning.

1. The graphs and tables surrounded on the internet earlier, which contains mainly two focus, came from the statistics opened to the public:

Government Officials suspected for hoarding masks arouses heavy public criticism

Shortage of masks in Hong Kong is increasingly severe. However, the CSI masks that are produced by female inmates and are solely for government bureaux were allegedly used as "new year gifts", causing criticism and controversy.

On February 1, a civilian surnamed Lee drove by Ta Chuen Ping Street in Kwai Chung, he saw a driver in a private car handed out 2 boxes of CSI masks and red packets for a lady, as if presenting her new year gifts.

Many people challenged government officials for being self-serving and thoughtless, refusing to share CSI masks with the public to solve their urgent needs, particularly with the elderly.

A senior supervisor of Food and Hygiene Department, surnamed Kong showed-off numerous boxes of masks on his Facebook with a comment, bragging “shortage? I don’t think so”. Yielding to heavily criticism, he later apologised that the masks did not belong to him, but these were 6-month stocks for all front-line colleagues of his team.

Hongkongers Will Never Bow Down in the Face of Tyranny and Abuse

2019 was a year of oppression for Asia, but also of resistance. From Hong Kong students lead's of a mass movement against growing Chinese encroachment, to students in India protesting against anti-Muslim laws. From Thailand’s young voters flocking to a new opposition party, to Taiwan’s pro-LGBTI-equality demonstrations. All these examples of events covered in an annual report from Amnesty International.

Protesters across Asia were often bloodied, but never broken. They werr often stifled, but never silenced.

The report shows that the human rights situation has gotten worse very rapidly for the people of Hong Kong, with the abusive policing and suppression of promised freedom. Even though the Hong Kong government has breached the mini-constitution, the Basic Law, as well as their human rights obligations under international rights treaties, they have not be held accountable.

Hong Kong protesters are bloodied in this fight, but they will never be broken. They will never bow down in defeat in the face of tyranny and abuse.
