Hong Kong Police Threaten to Arrest Lawyer for "Attacking the Police"
On Nov 24, 2020, a solicitor (alias 'C') of Pakistani ethnicity in Hong Kong was insulted and rudely treated by the police during his work visit to the Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station. Police even threatened to arrest him for "attacking the police".
In an interview with Stand News, C recounted that he was accompanying an arrestee of Indian ethnicity to give his testimony. When C saw his client, he noticed that the man was limping and two police officers had to hold him up.
C was asked to return to the station after he finished his work and stepped out of the station. C was brought to a room and was insulted by the police with Cantonese profanity and others.
Having faced the "rude gesture", C demanded the police officers to give their individual call number, so that he could lodge a complaint.
After that, around ten plainclothes police encircled C and reprimanded him. The police threatened to arrest C for "attacking the police".
C said he was scared as the police could really bring it into action, "if 10 of them have the same malicious goal, who will believe my word?"
C went to the hospital afterwards and found that he had rashes and scratches on his back, shoulder, hands and other parts of his body. C has filed a complaint at the Police Complaint Department and has informed the Hong Kong Lawyers' Association.

Pro-democracy activists face unreasonably long detention even before hearing
Meanwhile, pro-democracy activist #TamTakChi faces similar injustice. He has already been detained for at least four months as of December 2020. He is charged with incitement including to chant familiar protest slogans. The court refused his bail application for numerous times.
Hearing of his case is scheduled in May 2021. It implies that he is likely to be detained for nine months before hearing. Former lawmaker and chairperson of People Power Ray Chan said, "If he is acquitted, he will have been jailed for nine months."
Chan pointed out that this is the result of the conspiracy of totalitarian, the legal system and the court.

12-year-old girl files complaint about excessive use of force after being tackled to ground by riot police
When the "Kowloon Demonstration" took place on September 6, 2020, a 12-year-old girl, a passerby, was violently pinned to ground by four police officers, who kneeled and climbed on her.
Yau Tsim Mong District Councilor Andy Yu Tak-po shared in Facebook on Dec 2, 2020 that he had accompanied the girl and her mother to Mong Kok police station to submit a formal letter of complaint. Yu described how the police had used excessive force against the girl, and the girl felt humiliated by the police.
Yu cited the girl’s experience, criticized the police for abusing their power, which violated their guidance note of "using minimum necessary force' by brutally pinning down a 12-year-old girl. The girl explained that she was unarmed and has not committed any transgression, but was still humiliated by the police, "I've been suffering from this traumatizing experience."

HK Police allegedly threaten to throw a riot defendant out of window to get a phone unlocked during investigation of a fire bomb case
In 2019, police arrested 6 men and women for the bottles of white gas and cloth strips found in their home in Causeway Bay on October 1. They were accused of "conspiracy to commit arson", but the prosecutors amended the charge to "conspiracy to commit riot" right before the trial starts.
The trial continued on Dec 2, 2020, and the defendant alleged a police officer of pushing his upper body out of the window to get his phone unlocked, while threatening him, "Speak! Or I will throw you out of the window!". The police officer was also accused to grab one of the female defendants and pushed her against the window, saying, "Why did you do such things? All that glitters is not gold", "You are dead meat and can do nothing. Why don't you just jump out of the window?"

Hong Kong Prosecution Claims Possessing Eye Goggle as "Evidence of Rioting"
On August 31, 2019, peaceful pro-democracy rally turned into police-civilian clashes and 7 protesters were arrested in Causeway Bay and charged with rioting and other offences.
At the opening of the hearing, the prosecution made it clear that no video footage could be found showing the 7 protesters had participated in rioting activity. The magistrate was asked to rely on their clothing, proximity to the scene and the fact that they ran away from the police to infer their involvement.
The prosecution claimed that although one of the seven peopls didn’t run away or wear black clothing, he carried two goggles with him which could also be taken as prima facie evidence.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab issued an statement in response, urging Hong Kong and Beijing governments to stop oppressing the opposition.
In his response to the jailing of the trio, Raab urged Hong Kong and Beijing authorities "to bring an end to their campaign to stifle opposition", and stressed that "prosecution decisions must be fair and impartial, and the rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong must be upheld."
When asked about the sentencing of Hong Kong activists, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chun-ying only stated that this is not a diplomatic issue.
Samuel Chu, the founding and managing director of the Hong Kong Democracy Council (#HKDC), an overseas Hong Kong organization which participated in implementing the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, said in a statement that Beijing and Chief Executive Carrie Lam have sent a message through this case: If young people do not obey their ruling, they will be jailed.
HKDC has asked the United States and the international community to jointly condemn this sentencing , which raises questions about the fairness and independence of Hong Kong judicial system.

HK Authoroties' Jailing of Pro-democracy Activists Triggers International Uproar
During the demonstration outside the Police Headquarters on June 21, 2019, Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow, Ivan Lam and a large amount of protesters surrounded the building. The trio faced three charges of "inciting, organizing and participating in an unauthorized assembly". After pleading guilty, they had been remanded in custody for 9 days, before being sentenced.
On Dec 2, 2020, Magistrate Wong Sze-lai stated in the ruling decision at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts that the trio conspired and actively participated in the assembly, which caused roads blocked and potential risks, and wasted police resources. The trio were sentenced to 13.5 months, 7 months, and 10 months in jail, Agnes Chow's application for appeal was denied.
U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi released a statement, comdemning “China’s brutal sentencing of these young champions of democracy in Hong Kong" and calling it "appalling".
Pelosi's statement also said, "This injustice is clear proof that Beijing will stop at nothing to stamp out dissent and to destroy the freedoms and real autonomy guaranteed to the people of Hong Kong."
At the same time, the UK foreign minister, Dominic Raab, also responded. He said prosecutions must be fair and impartial, and the rights and freedoms of Hong Kongers upheld: “I urge the Hong Kong and Beijing authorities to bring an end to their campaign to stifle opposition."
