Flash Mob Clamped Down By Hong Kong Police

Netizens have initiated a flash mob protest today at 1 pm on Hong Kong Island against the National Anthem Bill. Heavy police presence has been seen at multiple intersections. On Percival Street and Lee Garden Hill Road, many citizens were stopped-and-searched by police officers. The officers have also created a cordon to surround a dozen citizens outside of the storefront of Oriental Watch. Many citizens have entered the shops to take shelter.

Riot police violently shove pedestrians in Causeway Bay

Outside Hennessey Apartment, Percival Street, a middle aged man and woman were violently shoved and pushed by 5-6 riot police officers. The two were not arrested, but were warned by the police, who accused them of being impolite.

Around 100 citizens were stopped and searched by police officers. They were ordered to show their ID cards, to take off baggy clothes and their belongings were searched. Some female citizens were searched by male officers due to a lack of female officers at the scene.

Guns and Bare Hands: Police Firred Pepper Ball Rounds towards Unarmed Citizens

At lunch hours, riot police dispersed citizens at the area around Peddar Street with pepper ball rounds. They hurled abuse at the citizens as they pushed forward. Multiple shots of pepper balls were fired, not seeming to stop even when the unarmed citizens were already retreating, who seemed to become targets of the riot police.

The shots caused the citizens to ran in fright, rendering themselves in a chaotic scene.

Citizen Violently Tackled onto Floor by Riot Police in Mong Kok

A citizen who tried to walk out onto Nathan Road was immediately tackled on to the ground by multiple riot police. The officers were waiting near the intersection of Nathan Road and Dundas Street.

The citizen was stopped and searched and was subsequently released. However, he was warned by the officer, who told him “Do not try to outplay us, because you simply cannot.”

From Mong Kok to Yau Ma Tei, teams of riot police officers can be seen stationed in every other street corner.

Police Struck Photojournalist with a Trash Can

While a team of riot police was dispersing the crowd gathered near Des Voeux Road in Central, an officer struck a photojournalist with a trash can during their operation. The officer did not apologize. Another officer was also pointing to citizens on the streets with his baton and demanding them to leave.

An officer also scared citizens inside the restaurants with him yelling “Who called me out? Don’t hide!” There was also another officer who reminded the journalists to be careful of the stairs behind them.
