Legislator Jeremy Tam Comments on Police Badges and Activity at Diamond Hill

2000 | #DiamondHill

"[The police’s] ranks and badges were not properly shown tonight. Even the Boy Scouts have proper badges and a manual to explain what each is. [Because police were not wearing them] we are reporting a complaint.

When they came in, they yelled at people to leave nearby restaurants. But these people were waiting in line for food and only did after the police come in did the the restaurants close the gates. It’s clear that there will be more than 8 people in a mall shopping. Does that mean all of them should be fined? They are clearly misconstruing the law. I wish they would leave immediately and let this community go back to normal."

Riot Police Asks Civilians Not To Gather At Mall

1955 | #DiamondHill

Riot police set up cordon lines on upper floors, keeping people from the atrium's ledge. They gave no explanation when they were asked about why people were prohibited from entering that part of the mall.

Some officers were seen holding a clipboard with a thick stack of summon tickets, presumably for the $2000 anti-gathering fines.

Editor's Note: Are the riot police officers demanding for a “one-man shopping” regulation in malls now?
