Celebrity mocked the ignorance of the Pro-China Chairman of Hong Kong's Junior Police Officers Association
Movie celebrity Chapman To posted on his Facebook page a comment concerning the Pro-Democracy New Year Rally in response to the statement made by Lam Chi-wai, Chairman of the Junior Police Officers Association.
Lam, outspoken for his pro-China stance and known for calling protesters "cockroaches" in open statements, claimed that there were no more “peaceful, rational protesters” in Hong Kong but only "rioters".
Chapman To responded in his post that if over 1.03 million people participated in the New Year March were to be "violent rioters" as Lam described, all 30,000 in the police force would not have survived the day.

20 Journalists Stopped; ID Checked Individually by Police
At around 9pm, a large group of civilians had a confrontation with the riot police at the Sogo Department store in Causeway Bay. They were yelling and shouting at each other. A team of riot police suddenly dashed out from Great George Street to join those on Yee Woo Street and charged towards Wanchai.
During a clearance operation along Yee Woo Street and Tang Lung street, a man in black clothes was subdued.
Later, police demanded an investigation at the side entrance of Sogo for “fake reporters” taking videos. 20 reporters were asked to line up for document check. ID cards and reporter permits were demanded to be shown to the police. 2 observers in the group were called out by the police.
The police then shouted for observers to return to the side entrance of Sogo, “We asked for reporters to be checked, can't you tell the difference between reporters and observers?”. Police ordered reporters to stop taking videos.

An Indonesian domestic worker who was passing by the shopping district felt unwell after inhaling tear gas. She went into Time Square, where she took a rest while receiving treatment from voluntary first-aiders.
Paramedics from Fire Services Department and ambulanceman arrived later and gave the lady an oxygen mask. They then took her to the ambulance.

A riot police officer in Tai Hang called the scene a crime scene, saying he did not know whether or not the onlookers had weapons.
"Do not frighten us or we will use force". He told the bystanders to leave if they were feeling scared. "You shouldn’t feel scared when police officers are around, otherwise you should leave Hong Kong."
He also said, "Don’t mess up Hong Kong. During a riot, do not surprise a police. Even an 18-year-old might carry a gun nowadays.”
“I am warning you, do not try encircle me."

Next Magazine Condemns Police for Targeting Magazine Photographer

Riot police conducted clearance operation at a legal rally on the first day of New Year, during which reporters of Next Magazine on the scene were targeted for no apparent reason, including a photographer who was shamed, scolded, brutally shoved, kicked and attacked by the police with their riot shields. The photographer fell to the ground, injured and bleeding. His cell phone was aggressively chucked to the ground.

Civilians at the scene called on the riot police to behave politely, but the riot police countered "you aren’t polite either” and called them "inferior insects."
