No judgment here🖕 - both are valid. But let's get real for a second...
Working with entrepreneurs is a whole different ballgame. 🏈
I recently chatted with a successful business owner who tried working with a coach. His verdict? "It was useful... at first."
But soon, he hit a wall. Why? The coach couldn't keep up with his business challenges and defaulted to a pure coaching approach.
Here's the thing: Entrepreneurs need more than just good questions. They need a hybrid approach - part coach, part consultant.
Can you handle that? Are you equipped to dive into:
- Sales funnels? 📊
- Unit economics? 💰
- Scaling strategies? 📈
- AND still ask those powerful, transformative questions 🧠
It's a delicate balance, isn't it? On one hand, you're exploring their vision and mindset. On the other, you're analyzing hard data and market trends.
If you can't bridge that gap, you might find yourself stuck in the "feelings" zone while your client needs hardcore business insights AND transformative conversations.
But here's the kicker: If you can master this hybrid role, the rewards are HUGE. 🚀 We're talking longer engagements, higher fees, and the thrill of seeing real business impact.
So, here's a controversial question to spark some debate:
Can you really guide someone through the entrepreneurial jungle if you've never macheted your way through it yourself?
Let's talk in the comments. Whether you're a seasoned consultant, a coach transitioning to the business world, or an entrepreneur who's worked with both - I want to hear your raw, unfiltered thoughts.
No right answers here, just real talk. 👇 Go!

What Makes a Good Consultant? 🤔
The answer might seem simple, but it's powerful in its implications. 💡
A good consultant does two things well:
1. Brings a lot of value to clients 🌟
2. Makes good money 💰
These two go together. To earn more, you need to bring more value to clients. If you really benefit clients, they'll pay you more.
What makes a consultant valuable? 🤷♂️
The best consultants look at the whole business, not just one part. They understand how everything connects and can bring value to the entire business.
Good consultants don't just give advice. They also help clients make real changes. Clients prefer consultants who do more than talk – they want someone who helps get things done.
In short: A good consultant is like a partner. They want their clients to succeed and work hard to make it happen. 🤝💪
To be a better consultant, focus on bringing as much value to clients as you can. The money will follow. 📈
That's all for today. Keep working on bringing real value to your clients! 👍🌟

How did you get into consulting? Let's share our stories! 🚀
A few interesting facts about my journey into consulting. Before I started, I had a small exit from my previous business. However, I quickly learned about the fleeting nature of success when I spent almost half of that money during one trip to Paris.
Like many former business owners, I found myself being approached by others seeking advice. I started giving consultations based on my experience. This took up a lot of my time but brought in little money - I learned the hard way that people often don't pay for advice.
My first significant income in consulting came from creating pitch decks for startups. I invested so much effort into this work that it often took a few months and included developing a go-to-market strategy and testing critical hypotheses. This process resembled an acceleration program, so I began calling it an accelerator.
From the first (and only) batch of this program, I continued working with one company for several more years. They later became a 🦄 unicorn, though the program was equity-free.
This experience led me to join a large accelerator in Russia, sometimes referred to as the "Russian YC". We had several thousand startups to experiment with, allowing us to create an original methodology for startup growth. Over time, I expanded this method to work for later-stage and larger businesses as well.
Since 2016, I've been teaching this methodology, which I call Growth Tracking, to consultants, coaches, entrepreneurs, and investors. It's not just about helping clients - it's also a powerful tool for consultants to increase their own income and value.
I'm curious about your experiences:
- How did you transition into consulting?
- What unexpected opportunities shaped your career?
- How have you increased your consulting income over time?
Share your story in the comments. I'm looking forward to learning from your experiences.
