The CIA’s Air America (AA) story is fairly interesting.

It began as a small leasing operation (all planes and facilities were ALWAYS leased)

With the “secret war” in Laos, the Military kept their official aircraft in Thailand and VN, while AA played a major support role in Laos and Cambodia, delivering “irregular troops” and logistic support.

All aircraft (fixed wing and rotary wing) were leased.
New Choppers from “AZ Helicopter” while “combat” aircraft were leased from Army and USAG. National Guard (e.g., WW2/Korean War era aircraft)

All pilots were private contractors (most were retired or ex Military with combat experience; $80,000 (average) salaries were paid in gold bullion ($32/ounce back then).

Pilots shot down/captured were recovered from Pathetic Lao via gold bullion ransom.

These guys were daredevils and enjoyed the constant adrenaline rush of their missions - and they drank a lot of “Long Island Iced Tea”.
(I never flew with a sober pilot).
Their safety record was 100%.

Never a crash through pilot error or mechanical failure (the planes were stripped down to bare bones routinely for maintenance and new parts). Every so often, one would be shot down and the pilot(s) crew might be killed/wounded/captured.

At the end of the “war”, all the leased aircraft were returned to their owners in better condition than when they were first leased.

Within a week, the entire AA (and Continental Air) facilities, equipment, Admin staff and materials had disappeared.

The AA chief advised me that the only item which AA actually owned was an old, beat up, wooden desk which he offered to sell me for $5.

(Mel Gibson created a movie about Air America which critics accused of being highly exaggerated.
In fact, the movie downplayed the exploits of the pilots.)

Kaysville, Utah: New video shared by the Kaysville Police Department shows an officer using their vehicle to stop a wrong-way driver on Interstate 15.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of Friday, April 15 when the Utah Highway Patrol was notified of a driver heading the wrong way out of the Salt Lake area.

While a trooper originally missed, new video shows the Kaysville police officer line up the car as it comes from the other direction, and then hitting nearly head-on.

Neither the trooper or the person in the car was injured, but the 36-year-old driver was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI.
