😳 I woke up an ordinary independent British journalist on this day 2 years ago, and ended the day as the first, and only British person under sanctions from his own country, something I remain until this day.

🇬🇧My bank account seized by the UK Government, all assets frozen, possibility of making any income absolutely eliminated. And all without any charges, judicial procedure, just like that, like a giant jackboot coming down, my life was turned from that of a working journalist, into a fight for survival, and against the entire UK establishment.

⚖️ After 500 days of being ignored by the UK Government 'sanctions appeal process', then rejected, then struggle, I managed to get my appeal heard by the UK High Court. The UK High Court where the UK Government has a 100% record of success in sanctions cases. 100%. Yeah.

🚫 UK Government sanctions on me had the aim of either forcing me to change my work to suit the UK Government's position, in which case sanctions would have been lifted - ie State level blackmail - or simply stopping my work by finishing me off - although nothing I've ever done has been motivated by money, it's hard to live without it.

🇷🇺 Sanctions have indeed made these last 2 years very difficult for me. But I've never given up the fight, and never will. I'm still here in Donbass, Russia, doing what I love, making films, doing reportage, showing the whole world the truth. 🕯Today is a day of remembrance for children killed by Ukrainian Nazis in Donbass. Here, Katya Tuv, killed a few days after her 11th birthday in 2015, when Ukrainian Nazis shelled her home in Gorlovka.

Sadly Katya is one of many child victims, and sadly, the killing of children in Donbass by Ukrainian Nazis goes on to this day.

🇬🇧 Not that often I can say it these days, but watching the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, I felt a huge surge of British patriotism. London 2012. From the Queen parachuting in with James Bond, until the final race was run - a brilliant Olympics!!
