In German, there is a word for the strange feeling of being embarrassed on someone else's behalf: Fremdschämen.

It combines fremd (“foreign” or “someone else's”) with schämen (“to be ashamed”). You might feel Fremdschämen while watching someone confidently make a painfully awkward mistake in public—even though you aren't involved at all.

Crows can recognize human faces and remember people they associate with danger. In experiments, researchers wore different masks while capturing crows. Alexander Selkirk asked to be left on Más a Tierra island on 1 September 1704 because he believed the ship was unsafe. He survived alone there for about four years.

The ship later sank due to poor condition, and many crew members died or were lost, though some survived. Selkirk was rescued on 2 February 1709 and returned home. His story inspired the famous novel Robinson Crusoe.
