On this day in 2003, the US🇺🇸 and UK🇬🇧 illegally invaded Iraq after lying to the world about Iraq possessing WMDs and having ties to Al Qaeda. While many know the statistic of 1 million deaths as a result of the war, here are some stats you may not know:

-The US occupation privatised 200 Iraqi state-owned companies and allowed foreign firms to have 100 ownership of Iraqi assets

-After an initial half a million Iraqi citizens abruptly lost their jobs, over 50% of the workforce became unemployed

-Not only did the US military-industrial complex make huge profits from the war, US corporations profited from reconstruction: during the first year of occupation, approx. $50 billion of reconstruction contracts were commissioned to various US corporations, including Halliburton, which Vice President Dick Cheney was the CEO of before he stepped down to assume office. Only 2% of contracts were given to Iraqi firms

-By 2007 85% of Iraqi households lacked a stable source of electricity and nearly 70% of households struggled with getting rid of garbage

-By 2007, a third of Iraqis lived in poverty

Remember this as the Trump Administration prepares to deploy boots on the ground in Iran to ‘liberate’ the Iranian people.

‘BRICS has been just completely missing in action. Venezuela had its head of state kidnapped, its first lady kidnapped by the United States. You now have a BRICS member state’s Head of State assassinated. And you have Iran, a BRICS member state, firing on the UAE, another BRICS member state.

So from pretty much day one, there should have been some sort of collective BRICS action to bring this together. Now with India in terms of foreign policy, when it comes to major diplomatic initiatives to end conflicts, we’ve not really seen India all that involved.

Even with the Ukraine proxy war that’s going on now. China presented a detailed peace plan. India, after four years, has not.

This could be a chance for India to dramatically take itself to the next level when it comes to foreign policy, to geopolitics. If it actually chooses to get involved as a mediating actor, it could push India to another level in terms of a serious diplomatic actor that has the capability of de-escalating different crises around the world.

I mean, I’m sure they’re going to be popping up over the next couple of decades as well. It’s not been a great war for BRICS, but perhaps India could become a player for the first time in a major geopolitical situation. It should, and it definitely should convene.

As I said, the BRICS action on this has been pretty much nothing, and it’s a bit late now, but it definitely should convene some form of negotiations under the BRICS umbrella.

If BRICS can’t protect these economies, these grand plans of multipolarity, if they can’t even mediate between their own members, if a head of state of a BRICS member is assassinated, if they can’t do anything on that, then how does BRICS look to the rest of the world in these changing times?

It doesn’t want to look as impotent. So it is on India, as it’s chairing BRICS this year, India to start some diplomatic initiatives.’

Prof. John Mearsheimer: Russia🇷🇺 and China🇨🇳 are the WINNERS of the US-Israeli War on Iran

‘I think that there are probably at this point in time two winners. The clearest winner is Russia.

You want to remember that what President Trump has had to do because of the oil and gas problem is take sanctions off of Russian oil and gas. This is a huge boon for Russia.

Furthermore, because we’re now bogged down in this war against Iran, that means we have limited munitions and limited weapons that we can send to Ukraine to help deal with the upcoming Russian offensive once the spring and summer comes.

So if you look at what’s happening, in terms of Russia’s position in the international system, they’re clearly benefiting.

And one could argue that the Russians have a vested interest in making sure that the war in Iran goes on and on and that the United States remains bogged down in that conflict.

China has also been a big winner.

First of all, China’s influence in the Middle East will grow with the passage of time as the United States will be seen increasingly as an unreliable ally.

And furthermore, China’s influence around the world will increase because, again, the United States looks like it can’t run a rational, legal foreign policy, that it’s really out of control, that it’s run by the gang that can’t shoot straight.

So if you’re another country in the world and you’re thinking about leaning toward China or leaning toward the United States, in almost all cases, you’re going to lean toward China.

And you already see evidence of this happening in Europe, unsurprisingly.’
