🚨Is Greenland still under Denmark’s🇩🇰 COLONIALISM?

Afshin Rattansi: ‘The poverty rates in Greenland are double that of Denmark, your colonial masters. Isn’t it obvious why Greenlanders want independence?’

Greenland Minister Naaja Nathanielsen:

‘I don’t believe that we have colonial masters. We do have self-government. I hope you realise that. We have pushed towards more and more self-determination throughout the years, and we are working towards that with Denmark in order to gain more self-determination.

Are we in agreement? Not always. Definitely not. This is a complex situation.

Still, I don’t think that’s for any other country to form an opinion upon. That is a decision for Greenlanders, by Greenlanders, trying to figure out how we want the future.

Right now, we are, as you mentioned, more concerned with fighting inflation, making sure our healthcare system is better off, and looking at how to diversify our economy. There are a lot of subjects that are also quite high on our agenda in Greenland.

And we have seen throughout the decades how the outside world’s interest in our resources has sometimes taken the lead in how our self-determination process is. We want to get away from a situation like this.

So I think we’re doing the right thing inviting people in to collaborate with us, but on our terms, and with, I think, sound legislation.

We are in charge of our underground. This is our decision. It’s our jurisdiction. It’s not up to any other country.’

Denmark’s🇩🇰 forced sterilisation of Inuit girls in Greenland was colonial social engineering.

Between the 1960s and 1990s, the Danish state imposed birth-control devices on an estimated 4500 Inuit girls and women, often without consent, to regulate population growth. Over 4000 girls were sterilised in the 1960s-70s, which represented half of the fertile women in Greenland at the time.

This was about managing a colonised labour force, reducing welfare costs, and brutally reshaping Greenlandic society to fit the needs of the metropolitan centre in Denmark. Denmark simply did not want to cover the costs of housing and healthcare for a booming population in Greenland, as it would have taken away from spending on the population in mainland Denmark.

Under imperialism, Indigenous bodies become sites of economic planning. Reproduction itself is barbarically subordinated to capital and the state. When surplus populations are deemed “unproductive” or “costly,” coercion and sterilisation replaces consent.

Denmark may have apologised, but only once the horrors were uncovered decades later. The apology means nothing without confronting the system that enabled it: colonial capitalism, under the mask of a supposedly liberal state that lectured the global south about “human rights” while enforcing racist colonial domination in practice.

Greenland’s foreign policy is Denmark’s🇩🇰 foreign policy:

-Denmark armed Israel for the Gaza genocide

-Recognised Kosovo’s independence from Serbia🇷🇸

‘Isn’t it a bit hypocritical of Greenlanders to say they have their own sovereignty while they have an American base and while they completely support the violations of sovereignty in countries all around the world?’

In hindsight, the uncivilised barbarism that the US, UK, and EU helped Israel commit in Gaza is not surprising given the sheer moral decay of Western elites, shown by the Epstein Files.

‘I definitely think that NATO is in a difficult place right now… I think NATO is under a lot of stress. I don’t know the future of it. I don’t even know the future of the broader geopolitical situation two years from now.

I think things are changing quite a bit, and it’s going to be difficult. I think I agree with Carney when he says that there’s really no going back to what was.

I think we have to figure out where to go next. So I cannot answer your question with a very clear answer. I think things are changing.

But I do still believe that NATO, for my part of the world, has brought more peace, and realising of course this is not the truth anywhere or everywhere. I understand that fully.

But for Greenland, it has brought a period of more peace.’

The Financial Times reports that Ukraine has agreed to a multi-tier ‘ceasefire plan’ where any breach of the ceasefire could trigger military escalation between Russia🇷🇺 and members of the ‘Coalition of the Willing’.

So what happens if Kiev makes a calculated decision to provoke Russia into resuming hostilities with small and continuous ceasefire violations, in order to get NATO countries to go to war with Russia with the goal of retaking pre-2022 territory?
