80% of Chinese were illiterate in 1949, by 2015, 94.4% were literate
850 million people were lifted out of poverty in the space of just 4 decades
In 1981, almost 90% of the population lived below the international poverty line. By 2015, only 1% lived below the poverty line
Since 1978 on average, China pulled 19 million poor people out of extreme poverty every year
China has accounted for nearly 75% of the global reduction in the number of people living in extreme poverty since 1978
China has become the largest trading partner of more than 120 countries
The Belt & Road Initiative has been launched, dubbed ‘the project of the century’, with over 150 countries joining
The average disposable income per urban household surged 66% from 2013 to 2020, according to official statistics. In rural households it rose 82% in that same period

History they don’t teach you: on this day in 1960, Fidel Castro nationalised Esso, Shell and Texaco in Cuba🇨🇺, loosening the United States’ draconian control of the Cuban economy.
Before Cuba's revolution, US financial interests owned 90% of Cuba’s mines, 80% of public utilities, 50% of railways, 40% of sugar production & 25% of bank deposits.
In the first 30 months after Fidel Castro and Cuba’s communists came to power, more classrooms were built in those 30 months than had been built in the previous 30 years. Within the first six months of Castro's government, 600 miles of road had been built across the island, while $300 million was spent on water and sanitation schemes. Over 800 houses were constructed every month in the early years of the administration in a measure to cut homelessness, while nurseries and day-care centers were opened for children and other centers opened for the disabled and elderly.
With the arrival of the revolutionary government, Cuban healthcare was nationalised and expanded with heavy investment, bringing free healthcare access to millions. Universal vaccination for childhood diseases was introduced, leading to infant mortality rates plummeting. Cuba's 'army of doctors' is now sent to crisis-hit countries around the world. Since 1963, more than 600,000 Cuban health workers have provided medical services in more than 160 countries.
Despite being under the illegal embargo imposed by the US, Cuba now has a higher life expectancy than the US, has more doctors per capita than the US, and is among the top 35 countries for lowest child mortality rates. Under Fidel Castro's rule, UNICEF declared severe child malnutrition to be eradicated.

This is how most of the British political and media class think:
‘But the IDF is sniping children in the head’
‘Whether you like it or not, Israel is our ally.’
‘IDF soldiers say they were ordered to shoot Palestinians waiting for food.’
‘How can we not support our ally?’
This is Britain’s commitment to the ‘rules-based order’ summarised; rules for the rest but not for the West and its allies.
So long as you are allied to Washington and London, the British political and media class will excuse all kinds of atrocities and despicable war crimes.
When these people tell you they have ‘shared values’ with Israel, believe them. They share the values of genocidal colonial barbarism.

On this day in 1925, Congo’s🇨🇩 independence leader and pan-African hero Patrice Lumumba was born. He gained prominence as a charismatic and vocal advocate for independence from Belgian colonial rule, which led to his involvement in the Congolese National Movement (MNC).
Upon Congo's independence in June 1960, Lumumba was appointed as the country’s first Prime Minister. He faced immediate crises, thanks to neocolonial meddling in the country, including a mutiny within the army and the secession of the mineral-rich province of Katanga, backed by Belgium, the country which tortured Congo under colonialism for many years. His appeal for Soviet aid to quash the secessionist movement led to Western leaders immediately beginning to plot against Lumumba.
His rule would end in tragedy, when he was captured in Lodi by the troops of coup leader Joseph-Désiré Mobutu. The coup was backed by the US and Belgium, with US President Eisenhower ordering the CIA to ‘eliminate’ Patrice Lumumba.
For daring to oppose Belgian colonialism and US domination of Congo’s natural resources, Lumumba was executed by firing squad on the 17th of January 1961 after being tortured. Before being killed, the colonial conspirators tried to force Lumumba to eat the paper on which his Independence Day speech was written on. After being executed, his body was dissolved in acid.
Lumumba still remains an icon of pan-Africanism to this day, with his image and memory being a rallying point for Africans across the continent against neocolonialism.

🚨Julian Assange on how the CIA targeted his family:
“It is now a matter of public record that under Pompeo's explicit direction, the CIA drew up plans to kidnap and assassinate me within the Ecuadorian embassy in London and authorized going after my European colleagues, subjecting us to theft, hacking attacks, and the planting of false information.
My wife and my infant son were also targeted.
A CIA asset was permanently assigned to track my wife, and instructions were given to obtain DNA from my 6-month-old son's nappy.
This is the testimony of more than 30 current and former US intelligence officials speaking to the US press, which has been additionally corroborated by records seized in a prosecution brought against some of the CIA agents involved.
The CIA's targeting of myself, my family, and my associates through aggressive, extrajudicial, and extraterritorial means provides a rare insight into how powerful intelligence organizations engage in transnational repression."
