The U.S. Federal Reserve, together with other regulators, has presented a draft set of rules that would require licensed stablecoin issuers to implement customer identification procedures (KYC).
The requirements were developed under the GENIUS Act, which creates a regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States.
According to the draft, issuers will be required to establish customers’ identities, store identification data, and screen users against government lists of individuals linked to terrorism and other illegal activities.
In addition, regulators propose officially classifying companies that issue stablecoins as financial institutions for the purposes of anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorist financing legislation.
