Expected number of blocks (based on delegation/stake): 5.25

Blocks Predicted for the Next Epoch: 7

Well there we have it we are late with the update so apologies for that but we made the single block allocated to us which although was a disappointing amount at least we made it. We have an estimated seven blocks for the next epoch (we have already made one due to the late update) and we have a some new delegation to the pool which is fantastic so now the expected blocks to be allocated should be around five each epoch.

The test-net has gone through the hard fork successfully - https://twitter.com/InputOutputHK/status/1543692218799718401 - with the new node software 1.35.0 so now partners/exchanges/DApp devs/pool operators have four weeks to get ready for the hard fork on the main-net. We will leave it a while longer to switch over to 1.35.0 as we just want to ensure there are no reported issues in the stake pool community. The shutdown issue we had seems to have been fixed with a small tweak so that is fantastic as it was taking hours to replay through the transactions in the database to ensure they were valid which stopped the node starting. Saying that upgrading to 1.35.0 will replay the whole database which can take ten plus hours so we have to be careful when we do this on the block producer but we can do it on a relay and copy the database to the block making node if needed. We will look and find time between blocks where we have a long time where this will not be an issue.

Nothing else to report so have a great next five days and we will return with a short update at the end of the epoch.

An interesting epoch where we lost one more block and this was not the normal situation where it was broadcast to the network but did not make it but it never made the network. We believe this was an issue with one of our relays which was out of sync for a while and we were bringing it back into sync when the block was lost. We have two relays so the other should have been sufficient but it seems that in this case it was not. We will look into having more resources available to spin up another relay but of course this all adds to our expenses so we will see what options we have. We made six blocks which is above expectations and for the next epoch we have an estimated seven blocks.

There was a slight issue in the new software node on the testnet so there is a new build of 1.35.1 coming out shortly to fix this and be tested further on the tested but 1.35.0 was seen as a success apart from the issue seen so stake pools will start to update to 1.35.1 on the main-net soon. This epoch we have updated our block prediction software to the latest version provided by the community so hopefully that is accurate with the prediction of seven blocks in the next epoch - we will soon find out. It is quite critical as this software tells you when the blocks should be made and thus you can plan maintenance or upgrades around this.

So we have some items to work on for the pool stability and we have upgrades to do shortly as well and we'll be back at the end of the next epoch for a short debrief.

Another block lost which is frustrating to say the least. We have examined the systems and networking and nothing seems out of order or can be improved but we will keep investigating. As this seems to be a theme in the last few epochs we decided to go ahead and update our systems to the latest 1.35.0 release now as there are some performance enhancements and it is needed for the Vasil hard fork. There will be at least another release before the hard fork as 1.35.1 is in the works and maybe there could be further dot releases but we will monitor and upgrade when the releases are proven (and before the hard fork).

Other than this the pool is generally running smoothly at the moment although the resources on the block producer where running a little close to max so we have decided to increase the specs of the VPS to 16GB RAM, 8 cores which means more expense for us but we believe it will future proof the node for the foreseeable future.

We continue to have some new stake added to the pool which is fantastic and we are always looking to maximise our returns to our delegators by ensuring we make all the blocks allocated. We are working to improve this as after a year plus of no lost blocks we have seen a few creep in during the last few epochs. There is nothing else to report - Charles is apparently on the way back from Mongolia and will start his weekly AMA's again so maybe we will hear how in general the project is progressing. We wait eagerly for the Vasil hard fork and look forward to performance enhancements and Cardano building during this bear market so we are ready for the next bull. Take care and we will return for a short update at the end of the next epoch - thanks for your support and delegation it really means a lot to us here!

Just a short update to say the new block predictor script is giving us incorrect values so for this epoch we currently do not have any idea of the expected block count. We are working on it and will give an update when we have resolved the issue. This does not halt the production of blocks it just stops us knowing when blocks are due and therefore when the best time for maintenance is. Currently the pool has made five blocks this epoch already.

Ok issue resolved with an additional parameter needed in the block prediction command. So our predicted blocks this epoch are now nine although we seem to have created one extra block from what was estimated so we will see at the end of the epoch if we have nine or ten blocks produced. Either way it is pretty good on an expected five blocks (5.41) based on the stake we have and so far all blocks have made it to the blockchain. We will be back with an update at the end of the epoch.

A really nice epoch with ten blocks allocated and ten produced. After changing our block prediction script and adding an extra parameter we got all the block times correctly apart from the script for some reason did not detect one block - perhaps that was allocated to two pools which can happen. Anyway we have the prediction software running again which is important for us as it allows us to estimate how many blocks we should get in the next epoch and tells us exactly when they should happen which is great for when we need to do maintenance. We have an estimated five blocks for the next epoch.

The pool ran very smoothly this epoch no drama, we are just waiting to see what version of the node software will be required for the hard fork, we know there is a 1.35.1 coming but perhaps there will be another release after that prior to the fork. We are still waiting to hear the date for the fork.

We have lost a little of the new stake to the pool but we are still above six million and hopefully more might delegate with us after the last good epoch. It seems there is a hardcore who stay with a pool and those that chase returns even though returns in a well managed pool should be largely the same although large pools do have some advantages with how the percentages are generated.

Have a great next epoch (five days) and we will return with a short update at the end of this epoch.

This epoch we produced five blocks and we have an estimated five for the next epoch as well.

A smooth epoch with no problems and all blocks produced. We have not heard much regarding the hard fork so it seems this is still some weeks away but we will keep you posted. There is a new node under development 1.35.2 so this will be probably be required for the hard fork so we wait for this and again it will take time for all pools to update to it and be ready. The weekly development report can be seen here.

We still have above six million in stake that is good and we look to maintain this by producing solid returns for those who are delegating with us.
Not much else to say but have a great epoch and we will return with a short update and the end of the epoch.

Another epoch down and we produced all the five blocks allocated to the pool. We have five blocks allocated for the next epoch as well just slightly below what is expected based on the pool stake but as this is random each epoch you win some and lose some but should average out over time to what is expected.

Another smooth epoch although IOG have said there is a bug in the 1.35.0 and 1.35.1 node and we should revert back to 1.34.1 until a new release is verified for the hard fork. There is currently no date for the hard fork and a new node 1.35.2 is currently being tested on the test-net, so it seems the hard fork will be at earliest mid August but probably later. Although delayed proper testing is essential especially considering the recent failures of some crypto projects.

Delegation wise we look to be holding above six million and increasing slightly so that is great news after being static for so long. So welcome to any new delegators and we are happy you are with us for however long on the Cardano journey.

There is the usual monthly update on the project from the IOG team here is you want more details on where the project is - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHHVaxkHFrE

Each epoch seems to fly by and here we are again with the five blocks estimated being produced. We again have an estimated five blocks allocated to us for the next epoch so very slightly under what is expected based on stake but not by much.

The epoch went by smoothly, it seems there will be another new version of the node 1.35.3 in the works and that should be the final version for the hard fork. The node is not released yet and so it has to be tested and then SPO's (Stake Pool Operators) and exchanges and other parties have to upgrade so it seems the hard fork is some way off. Charles made a brief comment on YouTube about the state of play for the hard fork.

We seem to be attracting some new delegators as our stake is increasing towards seven million, this is probably as a result of a few good epochs of block allocation and production so we hope they will stay even though currently we are earning just below expectations due to the random nature of block allocation each epoch. As always welcome to any new delegators.

There is not much else to report, all effort is to get the new node tested for the hard fork and we will wait for the new 1.35.3 version. Until then have a great epoch and we will be back with a short summary in five days.

Blocks Predicted for the Next Epoch: 3

We made the five blocks that we estimated last epoch and for the bad news it looks as though we have only been allocated three blocks for the coming epoch which is not great news but as you all know because we keep going on about it blocks are allocated in a random distribution based on overall pool stake, some epochs you win other not. So we look forward to this epoch finishing and hope for a better allocation next epoch.

The epoch was another smooth one and we wait for the new 1.35.3 version of the node to appear - first on the new dev net and then time for all of us to upgrade. We have not heard much this week regarding progress apart from the RC(Release Candidate) 1 has been released -- the weekly update can be seen here.

Delegation to the pool is still going well with us having close to seven million but with the low allocation of blocks to us this epoch we anticipate some will migrate looking for better returns. We concentrate on what we have control over and that is making the blocks allocated to us to ensure we provide good returns for our delegators. If you have delegated recently we hope you hang with us for a while and we hope to get better block allocations soon.

Nothing else to report so we will return at the end of the epoch with a short update.

Blocks Predicted for the Next Epoch: 9

An epoch with a low number of blocks allocated and if that were not enough we had one block double allocated to another pool so there was a slot battle and they won that block from us unfortunately. This is part of the protocol in that a number of blocks are allocated to two pools and then there is a decision making process for which pool gets to make the block. So that is the bad new but the good news is we have nine blocks estimated to be allocated to us in the next epoch so that can make up for this epoch.

IOG released 1.35.3 and although earlier than we like we decided to upgrade all the nodes as we had time with so few blocks this epoch. We upgraded the relays and the main block producing node and we will be keeping a close eye on the blocks in the next epoch to ensure they are created properly - any signs of an issue and we will roll back to the last release. We also updated the OS (Operating System) on the nodes as well for the latest patches and we will look in the future to upgrade to a new release of the OS.

Delegation is still good although with this epoch we might see some leave. We will be sorry to see you go if you leave but we understand. To those of you who are new and existing delegators thanks for your vote of confidence it means a lot.

That's it for now as we head towards the Vasil hard fork. It will take time as the exchanges need to upgrade and a large percentage of Stake Pool Operators must upgrade as well and DApp developers must test and get ready. Exciting times ahead and we look forward to post fork with the performance benefits it will bring.

Blocks Predicted for the Next Epoch: 2 :(

A good epoch for the pool with eight blocks produced. You might ask why not nine but as in the last epoch we had a slot battle (two pools allocated the same block) and we lost that decision again. It was the first block of the epoch and with the new software so there were some concerns for a few minutes until we found that we had a slot battle. The bad news is that we only have two blocks allocated in the next epoch on an expectation of just over five based on our stake, but that is how the protocol works so we hope for a better allocation next epoch - at least the extra blocks this epoch help smooth the pain a bit.

The new node version is producing block fine although we are using it earlier that we usually do we are keeping a close eye on it but see no issues so far so we hope that this will be the software used for the Vasil hard fork.

Delegation has dropped off a bit as expected with an epoch with low numbers but hopefully those that stayed with is for a few epochs will be happy with the general performance and will continue with us into the future.

No real news this week so we look to getting through the next epoch and onto the following one where we hopefully have more block allocated to the pool.

Ok so we made our two blocks allocated this epoch with no slot battles this time so that is a bonus after the last two epochs. For the next epoch we have an estimated five blocks which is better just slightly below expectations based on stake.

There has been major drama this epoch not with the pool but with the community in general and node version 1.35.3. Some Stake Pool Operators published information saying there were catastrophic issues with the releases for the Vasil hard fork and the Crypto media picked this up causing a major drop in the price of ADA. Charles has gotten involved and I think both sides have made some valid issues but basically everyone seems to be getting to the point of agreeing that 1.35.3 is stable and can be used for the hard fork but this up to the Stake Pools. Stake Pools need to upgrade so that seventy five percent are running the new node before the hard fork can be considered - there is also some dependencies on the exchanges upgrading as well. So at present around thirty percent of the pools have upgraded and we await the rest to upgrade when they are convinced. There is more testing being undertaken on the test nets so we should see this figure increase shortly if all tests are verified.

Delegation has again decreased to just below six million so we hope for some good epochs following this so we can retain delegators.

Regarding the pool all ran smoothly and we will return at the end of the epoch for an update.

All our allocated blocks were made and for the next epoch we have an estimated six blocks allocated to the pool.

The drama from last week seems to be resolved and we are almost at 75% of the stake pools upgrading to the new 1.35.3 version of the node that is needed as a check mark for the Vasil hard fork. The exchanges have to upgrade - we believe this is 80% by liquidity and also the top ten DApps have to have tested and upgrade. So it will still be some time before all are checked off but it appears all is well on the way and we should see the hard fork in mid to late September.

Delegation has held steady for the last epoch and we hope for some good block allocations in the coming epochs to help us attract some new delegators. As usual if you are new welcome, we love to have you here :)

Nothing major on the pool it ran smoothly all epoch with no issues.

Well it seems the hard fork is eventually on the way. The stake pools have done our part with over 80% now upgraded to node version 1.35.3 and the top seven or eight DApps have been tested so this just leaves the exchanges which is underway. IOG are putting forward the dates of 17, 22 or 27 September for the fork so we should see it happen then. Hopefully it will not be during the Ethereum merge to proof of stake as that would mean the good news from our side would be lost - but we shall see.

Again Delegation has held steady which is good and we hope that this continues.

The pool continues to run smoothly with no issues.

So we look forward to getting the definitive date for the hard fork and we should have it by the end of the epoch when we are back for a short update.

Well an early update as we are travelling during the epoch transition but we have already made all the blocks we have been allocated this epoch and it is currently too early to run the calculation for the next epoch but we will post an update with the expected number of blocks for the next epoch on Sunday.

The hardfork is still on for September 22nd as per an update from IOG...

"With over 95% of testnet blocks being created by the Vasil node (1.35.3), the top Cardano DApps tested and confirmed ready, and top exchanges continuing to make good progress on their updates (now over 55% by liquidity), we are confident we are still on track and will be able to proceed with triggering the hard fork at the appropriate time.

-September 19th - Mainnet update proposal needs to be submitted by this date to trigger HFC event on 22nd
-September 22nd - Mainnet HFC event (era transitions from Alonzo -> Babbage)
-September 27th - Plutus V2 Cost Model available on Mainnet"

So that is great news and we look forward to the improvements this brings to the project.

From our side we have tweaked some of the cardano-node settings to hopefully help with memory consumption and potentially reduce the chance of missing blocks so we are monitoring these changes to see what affect they have over the next epoch. Other than that we are ready for the hardfork and all systems are go!

A very nice epoch with all nine blocks produced and six predicted for the next epoch.

Well the date is finally here and we will hit the hard-fork tonight. There should be no drama as it has been tested multiple times and previous hard-forks have gone smoothly as well. This will introduce performance enhancements and there are some Plutus improvements (language used for DApp develepment) that will not kick in until the following epoch.

The pool is running super smooth and the tweaks we have done seemed to have improved the performance further so we are very happy with where we are currently.

We upgraded one of the relays to a new version of the OS (Operating System) so we are current with that and will monitor this before we upgrade the other nodes. In the next few days we have to rotate the KES keys which we need to do approximately every ninety days so we just have to have to be extra vigilant that the following block is produced OK to have know the key rotation was successful.

That is all from us. Thanks for delegating to us and we are excited to get the hard-fork our of the way and see what improvements it brings to the ecosystem.

We will return at the end of the epoch with a short update.
