Frequency separation retouching in Photoshop

A way of taking textures on images (details)(high frequency) on one layer and take like tone, shadow and colors (diffuse)(low frequency) on other layer.

Benefits

Unlike blurring images which get rid of skin textures and make unrealistic, in frequency separation the texture is preserved.

When you want to get rid of uneven skin, shadow or polishing skin tone and smooth out transitions you work on color /low layer while preserving texture and when you want to remove small details like wrinkles you'll work on texture/high layer while preserving highlights or contrast.
