🇭🇺 Powerful storm with hail swept through western Hungary (June 3, 2025)

🌧☄️ On June 3, 2025, a powerful storm swept across western Hungary as two supercells moved in from the west, bringing strong winds, heavy rain, and large hail.

One of the first places hit was the city of Körmend (Vas County), where sunny weather was suddenly replaced by a violent thunderstorm. Cherry-sized hail fell, and squally winds toppled trees and damaged power lines. Local media reported around 20 emergency calls, including an incident where a large tree crashed onto a residential house, requiring rescue services.

The storm later reached the city of Tapolca (Veszprém County) near Lake Balaton, where the hail was even more intense — some hailstones reached the size of walnuts or even cigarette packs (5–6 cm). Trees, gardens, and crops were damaged, and broken branches and leaves covered the roads.
